Dotster Names Daniel Frechtling CMO and Ross Johnson as VP of Business Development

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - Dotster, Inc., one of the world’s largest domain registration and Web hosting companies, announces that Daniel Frechtling has joined the company as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and Ross Johnston has joined as Vice President of Business Development.

Both come to the company with many years of successful management, marketing and leadership skill and experience.

As the CMO, Frechtling will have global responsibility in shaping Dotster’s strategic marketing vision and growing company revenues. He is responsible for market research and analysis, product management, marketing communications, direct marketing and sales.

Frechtling comes to Dotster with over 15 years of marketing and management experience. Most recently, Frechtling was Senior Vice President, Marketing and Business Development at Knowledge Learning, the largest U.S. early education company.

In this role, Frechtling developed an improved value proposition and brand identity for leading brand KinderCare, led one of the largest retail re-brands, significantly lowered customer acquisition costs and improved sales and marketing productivity with new CRM and other IT systems.

Before joining Knowledge Learning, Frechtling was VP Strategic Planning and Director, Worldwide Marketing for Mattel, Inc. Prior to that he was Vice President at Stamps.com and held management positions at .tv Corporation, General Mill and McKinsey & Company.

As Vice President of Business Development, Johnston will develop new strategic partnerships within the United States and internationally, which will enable Dotster’s various platforms to acquire new customers.

He is responsible for developing partnerships that can be established within the online space as well as offline, such as retail outlets, magazines, radio, etc.

Johnston will also be responsible for tracking media effectiveness and developing models to determine project paybacks, supporting business plan development and working with the various stakeholders and other team members to ensure projects are scoped, designed and delivered.

Johnston joins Dotster with nearly twenty years of business development and marketing experience. Prior to Dotster, Johnston was Senior Director, Business Development for CNET Networks, the leading technology Web site company.

In this position, Johnston managed all aspects of new customer acquisition, business development and partner management for CENT Web properties. He also developed monetization strategies for and maintained relationships with key customers, managed CNET’s shopping program and maintained relationships with a wide base of merchant partners and affiliates.


Before his work with CNET Networks, Johnston held roles with the LexisNexis Corporation in market planning and business development. Johnston previously also held management roles with Neoforma Inc., Eclipse Technologies and Barclays Global Investors.
