This Resource Will Change Your Life

He stated that life is a mind game and that to win at this game we need to be able to manage our minds and we achieve that through controlling the following five key factors:

1. Your Focus
2. Your Self-Talk
3. Your Images
4. Your Feelings
5. Your Beliefs

1. Your Focus

In life, you get what you focus on. The problem is that while some people set goals they are so worried about what might stand in the way of them achieving their goals that they end up not achieving them. They failed in their quest not because of the difficulty in achieving their goal but because they took their focus off the goal.

"Obstacles are what you see when you take your eye off the goal."

To achieve your goals you have to think like Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich:

"I see only the objective. The obstacles must give way."

Many people succumb to this pitfall. Instead of focusing on what they want they focus on all the things that could go wrong. They focus on the obstacles instead of what lies beyond the obstacles.

Developing your focus and concentration is often overlooked in this world of so many distractions. Yet, without focus your achievements will be negligible. All the great achievers of this world have mastered the art of concentration and focusing single-mindedly on what you desire in life is the most important application of this skill.

2. Your Self-Talk

Alex Mandossian of Teleseminar Secrets and Virtual Book Tours said during one his courses that if you can positively change a person's self-talk you can positively transform their entire life. All too often, people have very negative self-talk. They relentless criticise and put themselves down. This destroys a person's self-esteem and self-image.

If you have poor self-esteem or a negative self-image, the bottom-line is that you will not be successful in life. So if you want to achieve greater success in life improve your self-image for as Bob Proctor says,

"You will never out-perform your self-image."

An effective way of doing this is to improve your self-talk.

3. Your Images

This relates to the way in which you visualise your goals. Now, not everyone 'sees' their goals in their mind with the same degree of clarity. And, in reality, effective visualisation involves all your senses because the more vividly you can 'see' your goal the faster you can manifest it.

There are many tools you can use to help you with this. One is to create a vision board and there are different ways of creating vision boards. You can simply take a piece of card and stick on it images that relate to the things you want to achieve. If it is possible to take pictures of you with whatever you are aiming to achieve all the better because this will make it all the more real to your sub-conscious mind.

Remember, your sub-conscious mind cannot differentiate between what's real and what is imagined. Hence, for instance, if you take a picture of yourself in the car that you want to buy then your sub-conscious mind will start to work so as to make that particular image a reality.

You can also create a digital version of a vision board to use on your computer and you can even incorporate MP3 music and voice recording for greater impact.

So get creative and have fun with this - the more you do so the faster you will achieve your goals.

4. Your Feelings

Often we are taught to disconnect with our feelings or we lose our connection with our feelings over time simply because we repeatedly ignore them. Yet your feelings are your soul's way of speaking to you.

When we ignore our feelings we impede our progress. For the next week aim to make decisions based on your feelings - your initial gut reaction about something. With practice you will be amazed at how 'right on the money' your feelings are.

You will benefit from not agonising over decisions and being over-analytical about a situation. You will start to operate more instinctively and effortlessly. You will start to experience greater flow in your life.

5. Your Beliefs

You operate according to your beliefs. For example, if you believe that something will not work then you will not put your all into doing it. You will self-sabotage your efforts.

However, if you believe that you can achieve a particular goal you will do what is necessary to achieve that goal.

As Stephen Pierce says:

"It's never a question of what is possible. It's always a question of what do you believe is possible for you."

Rafael Nadal believed it was possible to win the Wimbledon Men's Singles Title. Last year he played a great match against the defending champion Roger Federer but it was Federer who came away victorious (7-6 (7), 4-6, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-2) to equal Bjorn Borg's record of five straight Wimbledon titles. Nadal was bitterly disappointed.

But he believed that he could win Wimbledon. He re-grouped and improved every facet of his game. He worked on his body. He worked on his mind. He set himself a punishing schedule but one which he believed would give him the greatest chance of being prepared to take the coveted Wimbledon title.

It was an epic battle that has been described as the best Wimbledon final ever - outclassing even the John McEnroe-Bjorn Borg match in 1980. Nadal needed every ounce of his mental and physical preparation. At the end, because of the fading light, he could not even see but he believed. He snatched the Wimbledon crown away from Federer and the final score - 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (8), 9-7 - underlying what transpired when these two titans clashed.

Again, and above all, Nadal believed he could win and did what was necessary to turn that dream into a reality.

Learning How to Thrive in a Tough Economic Climate

Do you know more millionaires are created during tough economic climates than at any other time? These individuals did not allow adverse circumstances to control their destiny. You too can learn how to thrive in a tough economic climate.

I was reminded of this by a conversation had with a Post Office worker recently. When I went to the Post Office to collect my post and the man behind the counter said to me:

"How are you, today?"

"Good!" I replied enthusiastically.

What happened next was initially somewhat puzzling.

He sadly shook his head from side to side and turned his hand side to side as well.

"Not so good, eh?"

At this point my face was a picture of consternation. I was standing to his right so didn't have direct eye contact but I gave him a quizzical sideways glance. I also replayed what I said in my mind and how I had said it.

And, just for a split second, I almost doubted myself - maybe I didn't feel so good after all but I kept my mouth shut. After all, he wasn't really listening to what I had to say.

"Life is hard," he continued.

"Life is as hard as you make it," I couldn't help replying but, like I said, he really wasn't listening to me or interested in my opinion.

He went on to talk about the Government, the increase in gas, fuel, electricity, food…and I simply listened. Sometimes, it makes no sense to argue plus I was on a short on time.

Still, here's what I thought. Here in the UK, as in other countries, the Government may make mistakes but I live a life of freedom and that is priceless.

With respect to the dramatic rise in inflation - these things happen and yes it does present new challenges but when faced with new challenges you simply have to find new ways to deal with those challenges.

A while back my gas and electricity service providers offered me the option to freeze the unit cost of gas and electricity for a fixed period of time. I signed up to this offer without hesitation. Market prediction can be risky but one didn't have to have a crystal ball or be a financial genius to work out that the cost of gas and electricity was almost certainly going to rise.

Yet, I know many people did not take up this option - something that would have certainly helped to ease the financial strain at this time. People often fail to prepare for the worse even when indicators are staring them in the face.

I admit that the increase to the cost of living is a challenge and I too often remark at how certain basic items have leaped in price. However, that's not where my focus is.

You see, I have no control over the national or global economy. All I can do is control my personal economy. And so that is what I focus on.

People often direct their focus and attention to the wrong things. They focus on what is outside their control. One reason for this is that people do not want to change. They want to continue doing things the same way day in, day out. But the world around them is changing and changing at a rapid pace and those who do not learn how to adapt and surf this wave of change will get wiped out.

There are many people like the man at the Post Office - people who probably spend most of the day moaning about how tough things are to anyone who will listen. Can you imagine how debilitating it must be to be around such negative energy?

Consider instead how much better it could be if this man was thinking of creative ways in which he could earn more money so that no matter how much prices increased he would have the extra income to deal with the price hikes.

Notice how, for a moment, this man's negativity affected my own personal energy. You have to preserve your energy. If you hang out with negative people then their negative energy will drag you down.

When we ask people how they are many people reply in the negative and when they do so they are reinforcing negative feelings in their body. This is not good for their health or productivity. In the book "How Would Love Respond?" Kurek Ashley suggests asking someone "What's great about your day today?" because this forces someone to look at what positive in their lives and the more we recognise what is positive about our lives and express our gratitude for these gifts and indeed the gift of life itself the more good things will be attracted to us.

Warren Buffett: Rule No. 1 - Never Lose Money

Warren Buffett has two simple rules when it comes to money:

Rule No. 1: Never Lose money.

Rule No. 2: Never forget Rule No. 1.

Well recently, I decided to adopt these rules and this is what happened in short order.

~ My passport was stolen,

~ My credit card was stolen,

~ Cash was stolen from me,

~ I discovered that a company I had been providing a service to was underpaying me, and

~ I discovered that another company that was providing a service was overcharging me.

In other words I was losing money like water draining from a leaky bucket.

The reason why I am sharing this with you is because you may have probably experienced something similar although it may not be related to money. And what I mean is this - often when we set an intention to improve an area of our life the universe will test us. We will probably experience resistance.

I think it is fair to say that I was being sorely tested. Now what happens is that in many cases we become overwhelmed and we give up our intention or goal. Things settle back down to how they were before - well not quite.

You see when we give up an intention or goal that would enable us to grow things can never quite go back to how they were. We start to decline instead. Rot sets in which soon starts to pervade everything we do.

The issues that I outlined above have literally taken hours of my time to resolve and some matters still have not been resolved. Was I frustrated at times? You bet! But I know that by dealing with these issues:

1. I am being taxed mentally because it takes a clear and level head to sort out matters like this,

2. My finances will improve so I will grow in a physical or material sense, and

3. I will also grow spiritually as my energy regarding money becomes clearer and my awareness expands.

So when you set goals or new intentions and suddenly find yourself beset by what appear to be obstacles stand firm and deal with these obstacles. These obstacles are sent to test you and teach you some of your greatest lessons.

The Legend of Bagger Vance - Seeing the Field

Yesterday, I watched "The Legend of Bagger Vance" starring Will Smith, Matt Damon and Charlize Theron and directed by Robert Redford. I'd forgotten how much I liked this movie and what a great metaphor for life it is. After seeing this movie for the first time I immediately bought the book from which this movie is derived - "The Legend of Bagger Vance: A Novel of Golf and the Game of Life" by Stephen Pressfield.

In this movie Rannulph Junah plays a troubled war-hero who has lost his golf swing. Then a golf tournament like no other is set on Krewe Island golf course off Savannah attracts two golfing legends - Bobby Jones and Walter Hagan for an epic thirty-six hole showdown. Rannulph Junah who showed great promise as a golfer before going to war is representing the home-side.

However, it is the mysterious caddie, Bagger Vance, played by Will Smith, which is pivotal in this golf tournament. To play at his best, Junah has to overcome his inner demons and find not just his golf swing but his authentic golf swing.

Bagger Vance is more than a caddie. He becomes Junah's coach and mentor. He guides Junah and allows him to make and learn from his mistakes. However, he is also there to provide guidance when Junah is ready and willing to listen.

It's hard allowing those we care about to make what we clearly see as mistakes but what we often fail to see that it's not about the mistake. It's about the lesson embedded in the mistake and, sometimes, the only way to learn the lesson is to make the mistake.

To achieve great success in life you also need to have great vision - an unobstructed view of what is you want to accomplish. You have to be able to see the field. When you can achieve this, the obstacles that you thought existed disappear and remaining "obstacles" become relatively easy to deal with because you will find that these obstacles exist mainly in your mind.

There is a beautiful moment in the movie where Bagger Vance teaches Junah how to see the field. He tells Junah that:

"There's a perfect shot in each and every one of us and all we got to do is get ourselves out of its way and let it choose us."

In other words, we are the ones who put up the greatest resistance to achieving our greatness. We each have a path - call it our destiny. It's a path that has been carved out for us but we wander this way and that, and allow ourselves to be distracted and conflicted by our very thoughts.

Our inner voice, the voice of truth then gets lost in all the noise. On those rare occasions it does break through we may be distrustful of this inner voice which has been with us all along but yet has become unfamiliar because of the lack of attention we have been paying it.

"You have to trust your inner knowing. If you have a clear mind...you won't have to search for direction. Direction will come to you."

It's our inability to quieten the mind and listen to our authentic self who is trying to guide us that perhaps gives us the greatest challenge. When we are able to do this, when we get clear about our intention, when we believe in ourselves is when magic starts to happen in our lives. We start to consciously manifest the things we want as opposed to the things we don't want.

So you have to quieten the mind, quell the useless chatter to allow yourself to see things as undistorted. When you receive an inspired thought you have to learn to trust it and take INSPIRED ACTION. You have to learn that life is a game and that you just need to play it to the best of your ability.

To do so often means getting out of your own way so that your perfect 'shot' or your perfect path will be revealed to you. Your 'shot' may seem uncharacteristic look at Michael Johnson and his upright running style but as he said if he ran like everyone else he would have been back there with the pack instead of leading the field.

It may not be a well-trodden path. You may have to establish a path so that others can follow but it will be authentic and, like Rannulph Junah, you too may overcome your self-imposed limitations, even come from behind and lead the field.

Unfortunately, my offering to you today will not help you to overcome your fear of public but it will help you to profit more from public speaking. Something to bear in mind though is that public speaking doesn't necessarily have to be in public.

Success Secret - Eat a Live Frog

This success secret - "eat a live frog" - you will have undoubtedly heard about before though perhaps not expressed in this way. This is one of Brian Tracy's expressions and I love the visual imagery that eating a frog conjures up.

Frog's legs may be a delicacy in some parts of the world but one which I'm happy to forgo. So what exactly is this frog thing and success?

Eating a live frog is your biggest task. It is often the task that you hate or fear doing. And, even if your feelings are not so extreme you certainly experience a measure of discomfort just from thinking about doing this particular task.

Yet, when you do get around to doing it you'll often find that this task that you've been dreading doing so much was not so bad after all. Unfortunately, because you procrastinated you may find that opportunities available to you had you acted without hesitation, are no longer available to you. Your reluctance to eat your live frog will have an adverse impact on the level of success you will achieve.

As Brian Tracy says:

"The primary difference between a successful person and a failure comes down to a very simple thing. Successful people have the discipline to get up and get started on their most important task and they stay with it until it is done. Unsuccessful people don't have the discipline to do that so they always have to be supervised and managed by people who will make them do it…and of course pay them much less because supervision costs money.

"Whereas there are only about 2% of people in our society who can plan their day, pick the most important task and work solely on that until it is finished. And, these people are the highest earners, most successful, fastest promoted and highest paid."

If you are an employee, look around your workplace and you will see that this is generally true. If you are an entrepreneur or an aspiring entrepreneur then examine case studies of other entrepreneurs and you will see that this is the maxim by which they live their lives and conduct their business. This is what makes them a success. To quote Brian Tracy again:

"The bottom line is that successful people do more important things. They do them more often and they get better and better at them."

So starting today, eat a live frog. It gets easier each time you do it and you could grow to like this 'exotic' meal.

What Are You Not Seeing?

This is a question that one of my mentors, Alex Mandossian (Virtual Book Tour Secrets) says we should ask of ourselves everyday for reasons which I'll explain later. I have been asking myself this question on a regular basis.

However, I was reminded about this because of some passport photos. My passport was stolen recently and I applied for a new one. Unfortunately, my application was delayed because as a letter from the Passport Office said:

"I had omitted to enclose two recent photographs."

When I read the letter I have to admit I was pretty frustrated. Here in the UK we have a system for passport applications called "Check and Send". You can pay an additional fee for an authorised Post Office to check your passport application and make sure that everything has been correctly completed and that all the relevant enclosures had been included before sending off your passport. It costs a bit extra but the peace of mind is worth it. I used the check and send system.

At the post office my photos were duly checked to ensure that they complied with the regulations and my application, photos and supporting documents were placed in a transparent plastic bag which was sealed before my eyes. Now you can understand my frustration. How could they not have received my photos?

When I contacted the passport office I was informed that they had received my photos but that the photos I sent were identical to those on my now cancelled passport. I was told I had to send photos that had been taken within the past month.

The thing is the photos I sent had been taken this month. They were similar to the photos I had before after all the subject was the same but they were not identical. I had dressed similarly for both photos but there were several noticeable differences. For instance, I was wearing different earrings in the photos. I pointed out the differences and was relieved to hear that my application could now be processed. Phew!

I hope you can see the point of this story. All too often we look at things with really seeing. We often see what we want to see. Sometimes we are confronted with situations and we jump to conclusions without truly evaluating the evidence.

Sometimes there are small changes that we can make to our lives and or our business that can have a dramatic effect to our results but we are too close to the situation or too caught up with our own drama to see what those things are. This is where a coach can help because a coach has a less cluttered view and does not have the same level of emotional involvement as you do in that particular situation.

This is not to say that a coach does not care about their clients and the results they achieve. However, if a coach were to get swept up in the emotional currents of their clients' situations then they would lose their objectivity and their effectiveness as a coach would be compromised.

So what is it that you're not seeing? How could you improve your viewpoint? Consider what's in your 'picture' that you are not seeing and consider what is missing from your 'picture'.

Focusing on these things will:

~ Considerably enhance your point of view,

~ Enable you to respond to situations rather than react, and

~ Immeasurably improve your results.
