Black Dragon Pirate Ship Arrives In Port Isabel

PORT ISABEL, TEXAS July 7, 2008 – Captain Phil Calo of TEXAS PIRATE ADVENTURES dba BLACK DRAGON CRUISES announced the arrival of THE BALCK DRAGON pirate cruise ship in her home port of Port Isabel, TX at Pirates Landing.

“We are pleased to finally have her home, Calo stated. Arrival in port represents the conclusion of our design and construction phase. We are excited about beginning our operational phase of offering public cruises on this unique and beautiful vessel. We have our crew, shore facilities, gift shop and galley ready for the public.”

The Black Dragon will operate out of Pirate's Landing in Port Isabel, Texas. Daly public cruises are offered as well as private charters.

Texas Pirate Adventures Announces The Launch Of The Black Dragon Pirate Ship

Captain Phil Calo, general manager of Texas Pirate Adventures, announced today the launch of the new pirate ship, Black Dragon, by Duckworth Shipyard of Tarpon Springs, FL. “She splashed at 11:07 this morning and is a marvelous sight to behold. In the next few days we’ll complete the rigging, undergo sea trials and complete US Coast Guard inspections and certification. We will then sail her to Port Isabel-South Padre Island with a one day layover at Galveston Island. Galveston was the home of Jean Lafitte, hero of the battle of New Orleans and it’s only right that we celebrate the spectacle of piracy in Texas waters by paying our respects to that patriot-buccanneer”

Black Dragon, with four decks and three masts with bowsprit, is a replica of the famed Spanish galleons which plied the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. She is 75ft in length with a 20ft beam, weighs 80 gross tons and is 57ft high from her waterline to top of her mainmast. The vessel will accommodate up to 100 passengers and a pirate crew of 6, and is the first pirate vessel to sail Texas waters in 150 years.

BLACK DRAGON CRUISES SELECTS PIRATE QUEEN

Port Isabel, TX March 29, 2008 - Texas Pirate Adventures (d.b.a. Black Dragon Cruises) General Manager Phil Calo announced today that the Black Dragon Pirate Ship has filled it Entertainment Director Position. Christy McDonald brings Black Dragon Cruises the talent and enthusiasm gained from her years of professional experience.

Ms McDonald, alias Ruby the Pirate Queen, has a rich theatrical background, with 21 years of performing and dramatic production experience. She attended Ringling’s Clown College in 1989 and worked for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus as a clown in the big tent, and as an advance entertainer. Ruby (nee Christy) has performed at Walt Disney World, Cirque De Soleil, British Holiday Resorts and Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark. Most recently, she has directed and taught Circus Camp at the Children’s Museum in Brownsville, Texas.

“I’m thrilled with the opportunity to help create a new and exciting top-notch attraction to the Port Isabel/South Padre Island area,” says McDonald, “When families cruise on the BLACK DRAGON they will have a fun and interactive Pirate experience like nowhere else. Pirates Needed - Audition For Crew Members

Auditions will be held for entertainers for the Black Dragon Pirate Ship on Saturday April 5th, 2008 between 10am and 5pm on South Padre Island.

The Black Dragon will be arriving in May of 2008 and will be sailing from the dock at Pirate’s Landing in Port Isabel. The cruises will be 2 hours and we will have 3 or 4 a day, 7 days a week all summer long, weather permitting in the off-season.

The performers will be required to dress, talk, and portray a Pirate character while in the public eye. The crew will be responsible for serving beverages and snacks, taking photo’s, storytelling, face painting, keeping the boat clean and safe. We will train you in being a Pirate, sword fighting, customer service and the like. We will also provide costuming if you do not have it already. Some experience working with the public would be beneficial. You need to be personable, literate, trainable, prompt. References must be submitted and will be checked. Bi-lingual is a big plus but not mandatory.

The South Padre Idol contest hosted by Club Pelican West and South Padre Network was a super success. This exciting contest has gained momentum each week finishing with a huge night this past Tuesday at Club Pelican West.

The club was standing room only as the final six contestants took turns under the spotlight. Early estimates of over 400 attendees on a Tuesday night in February left club owners speechless.
