Oh? You did not hear about it? That's understandable. After Broder announced it with big fanfare last week, Barack Obama's victory in Iowa completely deflated the event.

Michael Bloomberg is NOT running for President now of course. High Broderism has no purpose other than the massaging of big egos. I imagine the folks gathered there will be singing the praises of Obama and McCain. They will declare victory and get out of the Unity 08 business.

This is a big reason to like Barack Obama I must admit.

    Do you mean Boren - the guy who helped organize the event, or Broder - who wrote the article you linked?

    My question: is Sam Watterson being chatted as a candidate now that Bloomberg is out.  Talk about fun - Watterson vs. Thompson.  The L&O Showdown!

    I had read about the event, but not Broder's involvement.  

    Strikes me as shady - a lot of reporters refuse to vote to help prevent any sort of bias.  This seems extreme.

    as they were setting up the media stations.  It was hopping.  

    I know it's not playing large or well in the outside world but it's a story here in Oklahoma, god spare us.  And it appears to be going well for them.  They've had to move into a bigger venue to accommodate a much larger attendance than anticipated, they've added an additional hour to the program, it was on the local NPR station this morning &c.  I'm glad it's finally almost over.

    I will tell you, though, that a Bloomberg/Boren 3rd party ticket has been chit-chatted about in town for a year {more? less? -- some long while; I  keep hearing about it}.  Laughable, and yet ....  It gives me pause.  I don't like to discount the power of entrenched interests when they feel threatened.

    "remove partisan politics..."

    The conference is intended to develop a set of principles for Democratic and Republican candidates.

    Bloomberg said, "... speak out against... influence that has frozen progress in this country..."

    If he enters the race... it will be within the next two months... by March 5 or so.
