No Joost Invite Yet? Get One Here
by Michael Arrington on May 13, 2007

Like Gmail years ago, today’s mark of being a Silicon Valley “insider” is being part of the Joost beta. Until recently it was nearly impossible to get in because current beta users had very few invites. Recently, however, the company started allowing many more people in as they prepare to launch.

We’ve gotten dozens of requests for invitations. To streamline the logistics, Andrew Michael, a moderator on the TechCrunch Forums, published a thread to distribute invitations quickly. If you are looking to get into Joost beta before they launch, that is the place to do it.

Get your Joost invitation here.

It is even easier: download software, log in with ‘markies’ and Password: dazv5mc
Then invite yourself and all your friends.

Hey Mike,

A little late in the game on this one as many including myself have been doing this for awhile.

I wonder how Joost feels about this. We are pretty much allowing anyone to get an invite that wants one. They should just open it up completely at this point.

A invitation to consume junk TV is different than using a productive mail application, that makes a different and impact your daily live.

Hornswaggled,

I have the feeling that’s exactly what they’re after. The press will have a field-day on this, and by that, they will hit the mass market, or so I think.

Ya, I agree, a little late on this one. I have been giving away Joost invites for sometime now, including on my blog!

Gimme a invite at kingcool@gmail.com please

mucha gracias

I guess I’ve been an “insider” for months now. Really, all you had to do was fill out the form asking for an invite and say you were a blogger, and you got an invite almost instantly.

@Hornswag:

Joost is probably ecstatic about this. It’s exactly what they want. They sit back and relax while blogs like Techcrunch do all their marketing. If it wasn’t for their “closed beta” they would actually have to improve their software, or get some decent content, or do _something_ to get some recognition on a site like this one. Summary: this is _exactly_ what they wanted to happen. I’m sure they don’t care that bloggers are giving away invitations like this, it’s getting their name out.

Mike Malone,

Good point on the marketing side. They also can explain away any issues/bugs with the whole beta thing.

Mike you are late to the party. There are plenty of invites to go around and besides I don’t think Joost invites are as sought after as Gmail invites were.

Regardless, if any of you want one you can also comment me on my blog - http://www.calistomind.com

i’ve already been invited, it’s nice piece of software, but i’ll prefer veoh player. killer app is in the content, tv shows is not enough.

really dumb people - May 13th, 2007 at 6:04 pm PDT

To those of you complaining that techcrunch is doing this: get a fucking life. They are just handing out free invites. Yes, others are doing this, because everyone who has an account gets unlimited invites. So fucking what? it’s obvious from the comments on the forum that people want this.

I think it is hilarious that everyone attacking techcrunch is also linking to their own give aways. you guys are jerks and whores.

Hello~ love your blog very much~~ and I come from china~ may I get invite my email is poshboytl@gmail.com~
thank you very much!

Joost is not that big of a deal, it’s like all of that crap on TV that you do not want to see on a smaller screen and on demand.

Do youtube fans like joost application?

How was it?

Nice way to push the forums.

About sneaking for crap tv? Do me a favor… I do not need that. Something more creative, not that derpendable…

Hey guys, as you can see, I am currently bombarded with 430+ Joost invite requests. Unfortunately, I have to enter each email one-by-one into the invite system, so don’t be surprised if it takes until the end of the week to get them all sent out.

To those who are bashing Joost, calling it junk. Once you actually open the program and use it, you will see just how awesome it is. For example, you can watch a full length National Geographic program (1+ hours?) with perhaps one or two ads throughout the entire thing.

All this with impressive quality streams. Nothing compared to HDTV, but definitely ahead of YouTube quality (by far!).

I suppose this is a way to promote the forums, but for a good reason. The forums are becoming more and more interesting, and it is an ideal place to ask for help, post your company for review, and meet interesting readers from TechCrunch.

I hope to see some of you there!

- Andrew

I’d love an invite, can you hook a brother up?

I’m having no luck registering for the forums. I registered, confirmed my email address, and now I can’t log in. What gives? Maybe I just need to wait a while.

In any case, Andrew, if you happen to check the comments here before I’m able to log in to the forums, I’d love an invite.

Thanks in advance!

Holy **** poor Andrew sending out 500+ invites ;)

If you need my help I can take the load a bit off. I have 800 Joost invites left on http://www.petersen-inc.dk.

I’ve been sending them out since Thursday.

I think its a great way to start a buzz, I’m sure we will a lot more applications getting tested this way. Viral marketing through digg, techcrunch, technorati and so forth. It doesn’t come cheaper and better.

@ Dennis

Please by all means send invites if you have the time!

I am able to send about 1 per 10 seconds (slow!), and the list is growing faster than I can send.

I think I may lock the topic temporarily, just to keep track of who has or has not receive an invite, we’ll see.

If Joost is reading this, I sure hope they could provide a faster way of sending invites to all these nice people! :)

- Andrew

Andrew, I’ll be glad to help. You are more than welcome to add my url to your thread on the board if it helps you :-)

And yes it would be nice if they would improve it, for instance allow the testers to invite from both joost.com and the application. The invite widget isn’t the best “text-editor” ;)

Andrew: why would you even bother with inviting everybody yourself. Not scalable! Simply post your account details so people can invite themselves. Here are mine:

Username: markies
Password: dazv5mc

If you don’t want to give away your own account simply generate a new one and post that account.

Good idea,

Some how I feel this could be abused.

Can someone cancel the account? etc?

I’ll look into it tomorrow though, thanks!

- Andrew

Andrew: I have been doing it for a week. Once every two days someone changes the password or my name. I simply log back in and change things back. I sent out more than 800 invitations like this.

Share the love…

It’s all boil down to marketing.

Most of us who are web2.0 enough have already gotten the invite long ago. Joost is using this to tell the world how exclusive this service is at this stage It wouldn’t have been as tempting to use joost if its an open beta. Everyone loves secrecy/

How does this differ from:

http://www.joost.com/download/windows/

Ignore me if im way off the curve, thats how I got it.

@ Boris

Thanks for the tip :-)
I’ve changed the thread to reflect a new “self-serve” inviter

@ Matt

I believe when you download it, and try to make a new account, it will ask you what “email that you received the invite from”

I haven’t tested this, but I believe you have to have an email that an invite was actually sent to. I could be wrong! Thanks for bringing it up though.

- Andrew

If you go to http://www.adhder.com and submit a comment and leave you email address I will send you an invite.
