Flyers sign Eminger to one-year contract

The Canadian Press

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenceman Steve Eminger to a one-year deal, the club announced Sunday.

“Steve is a young two-way defenceman that will fit in nicely with our group,” said GM Paul Holmgren in a release.

The six-foot-two, 212-pound blue-liner was acquired, along with a third round pick in the 2008 NHL Draft, from the Washington Capitals in exchange for a first round pick in the recent draft.

“I'm happy to get the deal worked out and excited about being part of the organization,” said Eminger.

“I can't wait for the start of the season to get things going.”

Eminger, 24, posted two assists and eight penalty minutes in 20 regular season games for the Capitals this past season. He scored a goal in five playoff games during the playoffs.

In 212 career regular season games over parts of five NHL seasons with Washington, Eminger has registered six goals and 37 assists for 43 points and 221 penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by the Capitals in the first round (12th overall) of the 2002 draft.
