Recipe Saturdays; Week 1: Garlic Mashed Potatoes 5 Ways To Manage Between Work And School
Jan 13

Since I did computers last week, I figured I should do the stuff that makes computers run this week. I mean, why not, right!

Operating Systems:

  • Vista: Ah Microsoft, you are the bane of every computer, yet you rule the market with an 90%+ share. OK, besides the failed attempts to look and act like MacOS, Vista is pretty, and that’s really all I have to say on that.
  • MacOS: Now Mac’s have an operating system that is both pretty, and functional. based on a UNIX platform (sorta) MacOS has always been slim, fast and completely worthless for playing video games. Is is great for design, photo editing, and music though, so it’s not all bad.
  • Linux: Not just a creepy looking penguin, Linux is a very powerful operating system. It’s used on cell phones, web servers, car computers, you name it. You have to be a bit of a geek to be able to do everything you want with it, but if you’ve got the skills, then this is the OS for you.
  • Ubuntu: A friendlier, less geeky version of Linux. Ubuntu comes looking a lot like the graphical interface you’re used to. I also comes with the Firefox browser pre-installed so you can get setup and online faster.
  • FreeBSD: Now this OS is probably not he one you want on your desktop or laptop. To be honest it’s not that great for regular use. However, if you’re running a web server this is the only choice for you.

Alright, I could go on for about forty more pages with all the different Linux and UNIX distributions, but even I’m not that bored. So these are my top picks for Operating Systems you should know about. Have fun.
