Google Releases Knol-unit of knowldge

Knol is the new authoring tool by Google.Knol is a unit of knowledge, according to Google. The idea is to create a repository of good articles, I for see a bad future for Wikipedia. Recently Wikipedia was criticized for its lack of accuracy, its a result of allowing anybody to edit the articles. Knol is focused on allowing one or group of authors to write articles and let others to comment and rate them.

The key principle behind Knol is authorship. Every knol will have an author (or group of authors) who put their name behind their content. It's their knol, their voice, their opinion. We expect that there will be multiple knols on the same subject, and we think that is good.

Says the official blog.One good thing about knol is that its allowing authors to place adsense advertisements with their articles, which can make the earn some money form their efforts. The interface is very simple and straightforward. Lots of bloggers might covert to knolers in the future.

Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name ofthe town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Sinhala Fire Fox, Unicode Failure ?

I installed Sinhala Firefox after reading a big advertisement on the news paper. Unfortunately what i saw was not very satisfactory[see the screen shot]. The fonts were not very clear ,in fact it looked washed out . This might be a problem with the Sinhala Unicode Font which come with the installation. There was a huge debate about the incomplete Unicode font. I personaly think it is incomplete. I don't know why its do hard to create a Sinhala unicode font which is clear and easy to use. I have seen chines and japanes fonts go very easy with browsers. They don't even require to install additional softwares.The other thing I noticed that the words used to describe some functions does not reflect clear mening of what it actually does . Opps, I tried to upload an image to blogger and it doesn't show .JPEG files, All files option missing. Anyway Sinhala Fire fox is still in beta (I can see why), something which the BIG advertisement failed to mention.

Google Lively, A New 3d World

Lively is a virtual world created by google. Its aim to make the social web more interactive. After downloading the small software users can create their own 3D lively area and embed it inside their blog or other web presence. This is going to be so cool.Its Still Beta, but this could be the next big hop for Google. I didn't even expect them to release something like this.Will they be able to crush Second Life? Only time will tell. I could already see areas created with sexual content ( oh that was so fast). Sigingin is super easy if you have google account. Download the small software and double click , use your Google login. I started creating my avatar, steps were very simple and straight forward. I really liked the interface. Google Lively, Lets join the next big thing.

Few days ago I've got a Dialog magazine free with lankadeepa. Reading through , I've found that they provide dictionary service through SMS. I wanted to try,a random word came to my mind, so I SMS the word Sober. The reply was immediate and hilarious.This is the meaning they have sent me.I couldn't believe it. I went through lots of dictionaries to see if there was any remotest relevance to what they have sent me. I still have the sms saved in my mobile,had to take several photos since the sms was lengthy. By the way , I'm not proud of my mobile phone.I'm thinking of buying a new one. (-:

Killing Is So Easy

It's hard to imagine that we live in a Buddhist country. It’s a religion which radiates compassion to the smallest living being. Yesterday one of my neighbor was stabbed to death by a couple of guys. They were thieves of course, came in to the house asking for light, and demanded money showing a toy pistol. Naturally anyone would protest against a sudden demand, they didn't give him a chance. They stabbed him, twice on the chest. It penetrated his lungs, internal bleedings are deadly. Then they grabbed a chain from his terrified sister’s neck. I saw the crime scene, blood every where. His old father crying, sister soaked in her brother’s blood terrified and left alone. His only kid unlucky enough to witness his fathers brutal murder, sobbed, walked here and there not knowing what to do. His life will never be the same again. What have we done to this country, to our selves? I don't know whom to blame. Killing some one is so easy here. We all have the responsibility, for being ignorant, for not using the chances to make this country a better place.

Is it possible to find a group of people who has never seen an advanced culture for thousands of years. Totally isolated from the world, without mobiles, cars and internet. Recently scientist found an ancient tribe, hidden deep inside Brazilian forest. Not as fossils, but living totally isolated from the rest of the world. The picture was taken by a passing plane. They were actually firing arrows at the plane.

What kind of life they have, Can you imagine living without knowing anything?Wait a second, they must be the happiest people in the whole world. They don't need to suffer 20 years to go through education and finally find a job that can pay the bills(barely). They don't need to get up in the morning and get stressed up when you remember the things you have to do today. No price hikes,debts or constant desire to earn more money.What more do you need. Most of us are going through education just to survive the complicated world that we created ourselves. Sometimes I feel like that we are trapped inside our own concrete jungle.

Scientists fear that these tribes could be wiped out by disease if they get contacted by illegal logger or oil explorers. The black and red dyes covering their bodies are made from crushed seeds and are believed to signal aggression, native-rights experts say. Come to think of that, this could be the first impression that an alien space ship coming to explore our world might get. Its foolish to think that they are aggressive. Its natural to shoot arrows at the giant bird that suddenly looms across their village, its called self defense.

During the times of Buddha there was a monk who had excellent knowledge in Three Pitakhas. He was respected by many for his in depth knowledge. But he was proud and never liked those who challenged his knowledge .Nobody even tried to challenge him when they discuss dharma, fearing his reputation. One day he visited Buddha.Buddha called him and said "Educated empty monk, did you come to listen to my dhamma?".At the end of the dhamma discussion, when he was about to leave,buddha called him again and asked "Educated empty monk are you leaving?". Ashamed infront of everybody, he started thinking, "Why did lord Buddha called me in such manner?". Soon he realized the answer. He never practiced buddhism even though he was educated. He decided to practice meditation under one of his student. Then he attained Nibbhana.

This game is do cool,and addictive. Recently I heard that one jury was suspended because jurors were playing sudoku while in the court. The game has many forms, I like the online versions.To win the game you need logic and reasoning even though the basic principles are simple. It awas initially invented by an American architect, Howard Garns, in 1979 . It became popular in Japan in 1986, after it was published by Nikoli and given the name Sudoku.Meaning of sudoku is single number". Sudoku is played over a 9x9 grid, divided to 3x3 sub grids called regions".Your task in Sudoku is to fill the other empty cells with numbers between 1 and 9 (1 number only in each cell) , rules are simple.

1. Number can appear only once on each row
2.Number can appear only once on each column
3.Number can appear only once on each region

Send Panties For Peace In Burma

There is a belief in Burma that if a powerful man gets contact with womens cloths, he looses his power. The military junta has a superstitious belief that contact with females, even their clothing, will make them weak. Burma is considered one of the worst places when it comes to human rights. I found out about this activist group called Panties For Peace which encourage people to send women panties against slave labor , rape and murders happen inside Burma for 20 years.

Since we initiated the panties for peace campaign for Burma, women’s panties (as well as male underwear) have been mailed out by activists to Burma’s foreign missions in Australia, Singapore, and European countries.

Says a website. Its sad to see most of the south Asian countries are systematically driven into humanitarian mayhem. This campaign probably end with no results. but doing something is better than doing nothing. So ladies, start sending some panties and make this world a better place.

He was a normal guy until on day he found out that he has a power that he never dream of. He finds out that all he has to do to go some where is just to think about the place. Its called teleporting . How cool is it, very very cool, there are countless things that he could do. Fist thing , teleporting himself in to a Bank vault. Thats lots of money. He starts enjoying his life. Rome, Egypt where ever he wants to be, just think of the place & you'll be there but not for long. He finds out that there is a group of people trying to kill him. And he finds people like him, they are called jumpers and they are being killed systematically. Its kill or get killed situation for them. He face the problem of protecting his family and girlfriend at all costs.Jumper is a movie with tunning visual effects and nonstop action. Its another Hollywood innovation, like matrix and minority report. If you love science fiction, you are definitely going to love this story. watch the trailer of jumper here.

It was a day to remember... Their Wedding shoot. At the famous 100-year-old Church of the Annunciation in Pengzhou , China . Very early morning May 12, photographer Wang went about preparing to shoot wedding pictures for a young couple, this was the test shot before the shoot...

Pengzhou is located in the Sichuan province. It was morning May 12, 2008. And then it happened.... the earth quake! 7.8 on the Richter scale.

Bricks fall from the building during the earthquake, which turned Wang from a wedding photographer into a journalist.'Thank God we were only shooting from outside the church!' remarked a helper.

The stunned couple huddles together at the church ground during initial tremors. 'I shouted to people, 'Run! Run!'' said photographer Wang Qiang. 'The ground shook and we couldn't see anything in the dust.' As the dust began to clear, the true extent of damage was only beginning to appear...

A cracked facade was all that remained of the 100-year-old Church of the Annunciation after the quake. Most of the church 'collapsed in 10 seconds,' said Wang, who lives in Chengdu , capital of hard-hit Sichuan province.

I get on the bus and see a bag on the rack, could this be a bomb? I rotate my head nearly 360 degrees just to spot the owner of the bag.No, It doesn't look like a bomb.I tried to be positive. But I kept on looking at it. Then some one grabbed it and got out of the bus.Happiness swept throug my mind.Last time I found out that there was a box under my seat, could this be a bomb? I thought for a moment. Maybe it belongs to the guy sitting next to me. But I was restless, 'Is this your's? ' I asked him politely. 'No, the owner is sitting somewhere else, I asked the conductor' he said.That obviously Made me restless.I thought for a moment, can I trust this guy? if he's a terrorist this would be the exact answer that he would give.

The guy got off next stop.'You are sitting on a bomb and doing nothing!' my mind started yelling, I looked around, the fucking conductor is still at the back.I could hear him yelling, Stuffing people in to small holes,just to earn 10 rupees.I tried to think of something else. 'Life is like that sometimes you have to take some risks, so be cool' I thought.'If this is a bomb , do I have a chance of surviving?, will it hurt?'. 'oh man fuck I've got to do some thing about this situation'.I'm was looking back every five minutes.Finally the conductor arrives,'Thank God', 'there is a bag under my seat' I said, trying to be calm as possible.'its ok Sir he's back there'.'Fuck ,tell him to take the box away' I thought.It wasn't a pleasant journey even though I was sitting ( a rare chance in Sri Lankan buses).

The next day i was going to Colombo, someone with a big bag sitting next to me was behaving bit odd. 'He could be one of them' I thought. Then the guy stood up and sat at the back of the bus,'Why did he do that?' I thought.For the whole 4 hours or so I was looking at the back of the bus, just to make sure that he's there,with the BAG. One day some one in the shouted that there is an unattended bag lying on a seat. Made an electric shock run through my body. My wife begged me to get off the bus. I thought of taking the chance and stay,I have already bought the tickets anyway(I risked my fucking life for 200 bucks). The owner of the bag came running,must have gone off to eat something, I felt like slapping him. Its the new life style of srilankans nowadays. JUST GET USED TO IT!.

This is a cool idea, why didn't i think of this before. A solar cell which is totally organic . This could solve lots of problems.

Red planet never fails to inspire humans looking for life out side this planet. Phoenix , the space craft successfully landed on Mars to explore Martian polar regions. This time they have chosen the right place. The boundary of polar ice cap ,that means melting ice which could lead us to find first evidence of life.Nasas Odyssey space craft discovered that there is plenty of water just beneath the surface of polar regions. I have high hopes this time ,Spirit & Opportunity kind of disappointed me.Few weeks before, Even the Vatican announced that god may have created life else where in the universe. Good decision , they seems have learned the lesson from claiming the world is actually FLAT.

Phoenix carries science instruments to assess whether ice just below the surface ever thaws and whether some chemical ingredients of life are preserved in the icy soil. These are key questions in evaluating whether the environment has ever been favorable for microbial life. Phoenix will also study other aspects of the soil and atmosphere with instrument capabilities never before used on Mars. Canada supplied the lander's weather station.

Says nasa team. The first picture looks clear. By the way what is that white thing standing on the horizon? It could be part of the space craft, probably the parachute . Or else it could be one of those Martian coming to greet us. :-) I'm waiting.

Fish that fly like a bird

Earth is amazingly diverse. This is one good example of it. A Japanese camera man managed to capture a flying fish that actually stayed airborne for more than 45 seconds. Good example for people who doubt evolution, In million years this fish could become a bird. How can they fly? I did some research in to this matter. They are thought to have developed this skill to evade predators .

The process of taking flight, or gliding, begins by gaining great velocity underwater, about 37 miles (60 kilometers) per hour. Angling upward, the four-winged flying fish breaks the surface and begins to taxi by rapidly beating its tail while it is still beneath the surface. It then takes to the air, sometimes reaching heights over 4 feet (1.2 meters) and gliding long distances, up to 655 feet (200 meters). Once it nears the surface again, it can flap its tail and taxi without fully returning to the water. Capable of continuing its flight in such a manner, flying fish have been recorded stretching out their flights with consecutive glides spanning distances up to 1,312 feet (400 meters).
