Dan Abrams Pwns The Straight Talk Express

Via John Cole. The thing that strikes me most about this video is how uncomfortably polite the reporters sitting right next to McCain are being about his bullshitting, especially when he's not being especially polite to them. He's the kind of rude you get when you know you've been caught in a mistake.

Unlike Chris Matthew's smackdown the other day, which in my view was motivated more by personal irritation than journalistic integrity, this is a substantive criticism of something that matters.

People have given me a hard time for not fawning over Matthews, but come on. It's plain that he was just pissed the dude was all up on his show acting the fool.

The other thing that occurs to me is that despite his rappaport with the press, McCain is not a great campaigner.

He is so snippy and pissy & it amazes me that anyone sees him as anything other than that in terms of tone and personality. He speaks poorly even when he has a Teleprompter -- he comes off as stiff, boring. Not impressive at all.

As much as it concerns me that debates aren't Obama's greatest strength, what gives me hope is that McCain's thin skinned, impatient, snarky tone may not play well at all in a debate setting and that may be a really good contrast with Obama, even if Obama is a bit professorial at times -- compared to when he's on the stump where he absolutely shines.

I also wouldn't fawn over Chris Matthews; I probably agree with most of his views, but "journalistic integrity," as you said, doesn't seem to be what drives the things he says; I would prefer that he did, rather than verbally bullying others into his beliefs, just as other popular right-wing media personalities do.
