What is a Trust Seal?

A trust seal endorses an internet based business. This endorsement is done after it has been thoroughly evaluated on pre determined criteria and it is established that the site can be trusted.

There are several types of trust seals such as seals that assure security, fair business practices and privacy.

Why to use Trust Seals?

The internet is a faceless impersonal world where the interactions are through inanimate interfaces.

The usual human instincts to evaluate a business or a person have little information to base the evaluation upon. In such situations a trust seal becomes a source of comfort for the potential buyer.

To succeed as a business we need to retain old customers and add new ones. Both of these require a trust bonding. Trust seals are an option. The authority issuing the trust seal will inform the buyer that this site can be trusted for the quality of products or services. Also that it can be trusted with divulging your personal information including your credit card details. This is particularly important now that identity theft is a common crime.

Examples of popular Trust Seals

You will have noticed the small padlock that stands for the SSL certificate that assures encryption and security of online transactions.

Another is Verisign that assures the business is a legitimate one.

Yet another is the TRUSTe sign. This indicates that the business is committed to making public the full details of its privacy policy.

Still others are Trust Guard, The Better Business Bureau, Hacker Safe, and Control Scan.

All these businesses that offer trust seals are now long standing and have won the faith of the consumers. They of course also have to work to retain the faith by making sure no business that has been awarded a certificate violates the trust of a consumer. Therefore they usually have a complaints department that investigates cases where trust violation is claimed.
