Remember how Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki endorsed Obama’s plan for U.S. withdrawal from the country? And then remember how the endorsement suddenly became a question of “translation”? Well, it ends up that it wasn’t a botched translation at all, and that Maliki’s office personally reviewed the final interview before it was published.

At this point I am willing to say that the change in strategy and command begun after the 2006 election called “the surge” was in fact a limited success in bringing down the level of violence, that Petraeus’ counter-insurgency strategy was effective. I’m willing to give McCain that much. Together with Maliki and Obama agreeing on a timetable for withdrawal, I think it gives us more reason to cheer and get the hell out of there.

This speaks volumes about the republican agenda in Iraq.
The lies continue unabated, McCain’t persists in claims that the ‘surge’ was a success. The republicans continue to dictate the terms of the debate.
There are places where this would be a scandal. Apparently America is not one of them.

On a sadder note, it SHOULD be a scandal here of course, but when such behavior..
“...the Maliki “clarification” came only after pressure from the White House & CENTCOM,...”
(and I think we could just call it what it is..the standard bullying, intimidation, extortion, etc) is the RULE, rather than the exception, it’s not a scandal. It’s the status quo for the thugs in DC.

I applaud Maliki and the Iraqi politicians for standing up to the Empire and little king george.
I hope that the Grand Ayatollah Sistani actually come out and clearly ask for the complete removal of our troops and mercenaries from Iraq rather than speaking through others.
The real problem with that is what to do with all the Israelis runing around in Iraq who came in on our backs.

Like most Iraqi politicians El Maliki is a first-rate “bazaar politician”. He knows that he cannot sell a “firm timetable” to President Bush or a President McCain so he stalls as much as possible. However, he suspects that he can probably sell one to a President Obama. Hence, a little bit of brown nosing to grease the skids.

So what part of “don’t let the door hit you in the arse on the way out”, doesn’t U.S. government understand? The Bush genocide on Iraq was NEVER about the Iraqi people. EVER! It was/is/will only be about the Iraqi oil. People are after all, expendable and war is the expedient. BushCo. should be strapped to the docks in the International Criminal Court at the Hague explaining their numerous and odious crimes against humanity to the nice judges that man the bench. Warmongering freaks each and every last nasty one of them. BushCo. that is!
