Chinese martial arts star Wu Jing is keeping himself busy these days. He stars opposite Sammo Hung in Dennis Law’s Fatal Move, which just opened strong at the Hong Kong box office, and is already hard at work on his next film. Titled Legendary Assassin, Wu not only stars in this one but it also marks his directorial debut as he’s co-directing it with Nicky Li. The story revolves around a small time cop investigating a murder that appears to have been committed by a martial arts master so on a plot level I don’t expect it to break any new ground - this has been done many times before - but Wu himself is one of the very best screen fighters in the world today and he has loaded his cast with numerous other legit fighters so expectations are that the martial arts action should be spectacular.
What I had less hopes for - and now need to adjust my expectations accordingly - was for the visual end of the film, but Wu-Jing.org have just posted a gallery of stills from the film - none featuring the star-director, unfortunately - and this thing looks surprisingly good. Wu’s got a very good eye and these shots just look very, very solid. Nice.
