Chris Lofton and JaJuan Smith update

I stumbled on the summer league roster for the Denver Nuggets this morning and noticed Chris Lofton’s name. Lofton will play with several other former SEC players on the team including Jamont Gordon, Taruean Green and Sonny Weems.

Interestingly, the roster lists Jamont Gordon as 6-3 and Chris Lofton as 6-2. Is it possible that Lofton is only an inch shorter than Gordon? The only player smaller is point guard Taurean Green who is listed at 6-0.

The schedule for the Denver team consists of a total of five games beginning on July 12th and ending July 19th.

I found JaJuan Smith listed on the Dallas Mavericks summer leage roster. It sounds like JaJuan definitely caught the eye of Mavericks owner Mark Cuban:

Another one we were looking at [Tennessee’s] JaJuan Smith [didn’t get drafted and] is coming into camp.

“We always look for the blur of the draft. JaJuan was the fastest guy, the best defender of the point, and Shan was the best shooter.”

I don’t claim to know enough about the NBA to adequately judge the needs of either of these teams but it should be a great opportunity for both of these former Vols to try and impress.

  1. Jamon Gordon (Virginia Tech) is a different person than Jamont Gordon (Mississippi State). Jamont Gordon joined the 76ers’ Summer League squad. Best of luck to Chris and JaJuan. We’ll miss those guys!
