Mobiles on planes not wanted

Mobile phone Most Brits don't want to be able to use mobile phones on aeroplanes, a survey has found.

Moneysupermarket.com says that 54 per cent of people questioned don't want the services, which are already provided by airlines such as Emirates.

The survey also found that the top mobile phone annoyance was people who talk too loudly on the phone, followed by those who send text messages while talking to you.

People playing music on their phones, using their phones in restaurants and swearing on their phone in public were also major gripes.

What's more, 53 per cent of the 2,056 people questioned think that anyone using mobile phones inconsiderately in public should be punished – preferably by banning them from using their mobile in public.

Rob Barnes, head of broadband and mobiles at moneysupermarket.com, said: "People want a relaxing, hassle-free journey and whether they're on a short- or long-haul flight, they shouldn't have to listen to someone talk non-stop on their phone.

"Some people blissfully ignore basic mobile etiquette when it comes to using phones in public places, shouting and swearing regardless of where they are," Barnes continued.

A poll on the Web User website found that the prospect of mobile phones on 'planes was even more unpopular among visitors.

Seventy-two per cent of people who voted in the poll were against the plans.
