Video show wraps its pilot this weekendSocial media site Reddit stepped in front of the camera with their long-awaited venture, YourWeek, with content driven by Reddit's users.
Shades of The Digg Reel! Reddit kicked off its YourWeek project in beta version, in conjunction with WETA Washington, D.C., and funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
"We're finishing taping on the pilot this weekend and I can confirm that the reddit alien will be getting on-camera time," said Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian on the Reddit blog.
Viewers will have the opportunity to follow up on the YourWeek broadcasts at the YourWeek Reddit page. Currently Reddit is looking for comments on the threads being featured in the pilot; topics include lab-grown meat, boring jobs, and the continued discussion of the 9/11 attacks.
Oh, and cheerleaders in India too. Money quote from the Washington Post: "Some TV pundits pointed out that the Redskins cheerleaders are showing more skin on the cricket pitch than most Indian men will see before marriage."
YourWeek looks more like a vanity project than the sort of moneymaker Reddit's owner, Conde Nast, must certainly crave in this economy. If it drives the ad views for Reddit, they'll overlook a little vanity for a decent CPM rate.
