Safari 3 and CSS 3

Leland Scott has detailed how well Safari 3 has done with respect to CSS support:
Safari 3 / WebKit has implemented 18 of the 19 CSS 3.0 styles so far tackled by any of the major browsers. Firefox is next with 9 of 19. Some of these styles are incredibly cool and powerful, and they’ll change the way designers (both graphic designers and UI designers) put web content together for years to come. I wanted to raise the profile for this work, since it doesn’t seem to be getting enough attention. Even though IE 7.0 hasn’t implemented any of these yet, I hope Web 2.0 programmer/designers will feel empowered to start trying these out.
He is particularly excited about:
- Box-shadow: Yes! Add drop shadows through CSS!
- Multi-column layout: Can we really do this now? With HTML?
- Resize: Give JavaScript hacks a rest and let users relax when typing input on web pages.
- Rounded corners: Any
can be made round.
- Colors with transparency: There goes another ugly hack from way back!
- Background image controls: Remember how great it was when you could add images as well as colors to an element’s background CSS style? Well, it’s about to get a whole lot better!
Considering the call out for a CSS 5-like effort, can we get the ball moving again?

This is great. It would be nice if Firefox supported CSS as well as Safari. …I’d say the same about IE, but I hold out legitimate hope for Firefox.
it will be cool when they drop the UA specific prefixes. im so sick of ‘no such property -webkit-border-radius’ filling up firebug’s console scrolling off the more pertinent messages, and vice versa..
Too bad Safari for Windows works very bad. The first preview they released only worked with the Apple site itself. The second one I saw (yesterday) didn’t even start and crashed when clicked.
The Safari browser for Windows is the worst crap in the world. Reminds me of Netscape 4.x with its awful interface and slow displaying of pages. Please Jobs get a clue, your crap is like Microsoft ‘ME’.
Safari for Windows works fine for me. Just because it’s “skinned” to look like a Mac application is no reason to call it crap. The pages do display a bit slower from casual tests, but none of the sites I’ve tested it on have crashed while browsing it, and they’ve all rendered fine as well.
Safari is slow? I have not had an issue at all with it being slow. In fact it’s really fast and crashes less than IE7. Maybe some of you need to update your Safari. It’s already been updated 3 times now and updates via the Apple Software Update tool. I’ve been using it almost exclusively as my primary browser at work since it was announced on WWDC. It’s crashed occasionally but aside from that it renders fast and great. Good luck!
