I've spoken previously about trying to get in contact with muslims in your area. Sometimes that may seem easier said than done. Insha'Allah - I will provide you with links to sites that have lists of all the masjids in your area:

It really is helpful to find someone to talk to and ask any questions that may come to mind - that's why I think talking one-on-one with someone is important.

I have also found that especially in the beginning - it is really important to feel like you are part of a community - that you are not alone.

There are many good Muslim brothers and sisters who are more than happy to welcome you into their community and...

First, Let's Get Rid of Our Obstacles:

Sometimes we (knowlingly or unknowingly) try to find ways to put obstacles in front of ourselves - excuses for not doing what we need to do.
Of course, it is not easy, but we need to really need to examine our excuses and see if they are legitimate.

We need to get past these obstacles so we can focus on what is really important.

Welcome to my blog. I hope, insha'Allah that you will benefit from the information provided here. In the future, insha'Allah, I will try to post topics that I think are of specific interest to new Muslims.

I know it can be a somewhat difficult road to travel on your own . . . but insha'Allah, I really recommend that you try to find listings for your local Masjid or Islamic Center and see if they have programs, learning sessions, resources, etc., for new Muslims.

Also, see if they have any volunteers who are willing to work with new Muslims to help them learn about prayers, etc.

I can't stress this enough. The internet is a great resource - but truly, the best thing is to find someone you can talk to one-on-one and ask any questions you may have.

While most Muslims will not have all the answers, they can hopefully point you in the right direction.

However, make sure that you know what type of Islam this person is following.

Repentance:
Means turning back from disobeying Allaah to obeying Him.

Repentance: Is beloved to Allaah, as He says: "Verily, Allaah loves those who repent and those who purify themselves."
[Surah Al-Baqarah: 222]

Repentance: Is an obligation on every believer. Allaah says: "O you who believe! Turn to Allaah in sincere repentance!"
[Surah At-Tahreem: 8]

Repentance: Is from the means of attaining success. Allaah says: "And O believers, all of you, repent to Allaah in order that you may be successful."
[Surah An-Noor: 31]

Success is when someone gets what he is looking for and is saved from what he is running from.

Through Sincere Repentance: Allaah forgives sins no matter how big they are and no matter how many they are.

Allaah says: "Say: O My slaves who have transgressed against themselves (because of sins), do not despair from the mercy of Allaah.

Verily, Allaah forgives all sins.
Verily, He is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

Everyone spends his life-span but a pertinent question is: who fulfils the right of living?

Animals bereft of wisdom and intelligence also pass their lives. However, a human being endowed with wisdom and intelligence spends a much more excellent and superior type of life. Similarly, a disbeliever also passes the days of his life wandering in the darkness of misguidance and deviation. However, his life is quite different from that of a Muslim who lives a secure, smooth life in accordance with the guidelines of divine revelation. The day and night of a disbeliever is spent in spiritual darkness whereas a Muslim spends his day and night in spiritual light. Hence, a pertinent question arises: how should every Muslim spend his day and night so that his life could easily be distinguished from that of a disbeliever ?

These three steps are:

The first step is about coming to know God – through divine creations, one’s own being, the purpose of our life on earth, our life after physical death, and our final destination to be with God.

The second step is coming to love God — again through the wonder of divine creations, one’s own being, in the sacred gift of life, and in meeting God through our daily activities and awareness.

Finally, the third step is to learn to serve God — in preserving and respecting all of creation, in caring for others and oneself, in giving God our daily praise and prayer.

The order in which we learn these steps is very important, for one cannot love someone who is unknown, nor can anyone genuinely serve someone they do not love.

I mean here, to be the virtuous merits, that captivate others hearts and help in overcoming imperfections. Actually, such merits have their own effective power in charming hearts.
