AVRant #113: Analysts

January 29th, 2009

You know what Friday the 13th needs? More lens flare! Dina and Tom talk about a lot of stuff this week. Netflix – they are doing well but what do the analysts say? DTV delayed? So far we’ve dodged a bullet (but Tom and Dina didn’t know it at the time). HHGreg luvs Circuit City customers. The Speaker Company so far has impressed Tom. Sony may be getting a clue about their Blu-ray pricing. Samsung losses money and gets insulting. In case you were wondering, Tom said “magic” because he doesn’t know. I think the only one he fooled was Dina. Oh, the male ego, it’s such a fragile thing… Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

My country 'tis of thee, sweet Dina of liberty...

    Less vs. fewer

Hi, Tom and Dina. Grammar police here. I just wanted to remind you that the correct phrasing is, “ten words or fewer”; not, “ten words or less”.

If you can count the noun, you must use the word “fewer”. ex. “Less water” is correct. But you would have “fewer buckets of water”.

Dina, tsk tsk. I thought you were a teacher!

    Rob,
I were a teacher. But that was much years ago.

I think we got hit by this bullet fairly squarely in the head. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/02/04/digital.tv.delay.vote/index.html

You can tell your roku box what speed (quality) you want it to operate at. There are two different secret menus one at

    Home X5
    <> X2

    the other is
    Home X5
    >> X3
    << X2

on the remote. It doesn’t matter where you are already when you start the button punches

Whoa, Something went fanork when I posted that. The first code should be:

    Home X5
    <>X2

    Dangit!,

It should be sort of like the second one in the first post.

    Press home five times

    back 3 times

    forward 2 times

    Good grief.
