Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA News) - Banten provincial governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah on Saturday installed the pair Ismet Iskandar-Rano Karno (film actor) respectively as regent and vice regent of Tangerang district, Banten province for 2008-2013 period.

Ratu Atut (Indonesia`s first female who won in last year direct gubernatorial election) on behalf of home affairs minister, installed the pair at the district legislative assembly special plenary session.

Ismet Iskandar-Rano Karno pair, supported by several political parties among others Golkar Party, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), National Mandate Party (PAN) and Muslim-based United Development Party (PPP), won in January 20, 2008 direct election with 57 percent of votes.

The other two pairs of contestants namely Jazuli-Airin got 38.45 percent of votes, while Usamah-Habib Ali only had 4.66 percent of votes.

Rano Karno, one of Indonesian noted film actors and the star of
"Si Doel Anak Sekolahan", the country`s popular film, was born on October 8, 1960.

Meanwhile, Ismet Iskandar became Tangerang regent for the second term of office.(*)
