Brussels (ANTARA News) - The European Commission on Friday kept its ban on all Indonesian airlines flying into European Union airspace and added a Ukrainian and Congolese carrier to its blacklist.

In the case of Garuda Indonesia, officials in Brussels acknowledged the progress made by the carrier in the field of safety, but said the corrective measures were not yet sufficient.

"Furthermore, the authorities of Indonesia have still to demonstrate that they have completed the corrective actions," EU officials said in a statement.

"Pending both this demonstration and the completion of remedial action by Garuda and the other airlines, it was decided that none of the Indonesian carriers can be withdrawn at this stage from the (EU) list," they added.

The latest carriers to be included in the EU's list of banned carriers are Ukraine Cargo Airways and the Congolese carrier Hewa Bora Airways.

The commission said it was also "closely monitoring" corrective actions taken by carriers such as Mahan Air from Iran and TAAG Angola Airlines.

"The conclusion is clear: those states or airlines which fail to act decisively to resolve their safety deficiencies will be placed on the list," EU Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot was quoted by DPA as saying.

The EU executive reviews its list of banned airlines every three months.
