Jakarta: The Unites States Embassy has condemned the violence against the National Alliance for Freedom of Religion and Faith (AKKBB) last Sunday (1/6) in Jakarta.
The US government urges Indonesian government to respect freedom of faith as it is guaranteed by the constitution.
“The US embassy condemns the violence against peaceful action,” was a quote from a press release.
The US embassy said it believed the violence will have a serious impact on freedom of faith and unity in Indonesia, as well as security matters.
The USA supports the statement of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono that those responsible for the violence will be legally prosecuted.
The USA also conveyed its sympathy for the injured victims and hoped they would recover soon.
The National Alliance was attacked by the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) two days ago.
Some 27 people were injured and two of them are still receiving intensive treatment at hospital.
