Munarman barred from overseas travel

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The authorities have imposed an overseas travel ban on Munarman, the `Islamic Legion commnader wanted by police for his role in last Sunday`s Monas Square incident, an immigration official said.

The provisional overseas travel ban on Munarman is valid for 20 days reckoned from June 6, 2008, Syaiful Rahman, director for investigation and enforcement at the directorate general of immigration, said here Friday.

"The ban is valid for 20 days but it may be extended to one year when deemed necessary by the Attorney General`s Office," he said, adding that the ban had been requested by the National Police`s criminal investigation department.

In their letter dated June 2, 2008 requesting the ban, the police had said Munarman was wanted in the police`s investigation into the Monas Square incident last June 1 in which activists of the National Alliance for Freedom of Religion and Faith were attacked and maltreated.
