London (ANTARA News) - Young ASEAN envoys including from Indonesia 2007 had been invited by the government of the United States for a visit to that country under the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) from June 6 to 28 this year.

The 11 Indonesian young envoys had been selected by the Indonesian Foreign Ministry and they visited a number of States in the US including Philadelphia, Oklahoma, Illinois, Ohio and Washington, coordinator of the ASEAN-Indonesia Young Envoys Seclection team Azis Nurwahyudi told ANTARA News in London on Sunday.

According to Azis, US Charge d`Affaires in Jakarta, John A. Haffern, had seen off the young envoyes on Thursday.

They are students of various universities in Indonesia, including Gajah Mada University, the Padjadjaran University, Bogor Agricultural Institute, Airlangga University and North Sumatra University.

Under the IVLP program, they will be learning the life of American people by meetings with the youths and selected government authorities in the US.

The young Indonesian envoys will have discussions at some selected universities and government institutions there.

The discussions will cover current political, economic, social and cultural subjects, relating to American-Indonesian-ASEAN relation.

The ASEAN young envoyes will visit places of interest, and hold cultural performances.

They are expected to learn about the United States an exchange of experiences and discussions to develop mutual understanding between the youths as the prospective leaders of the nation.

Azis further said that the IVLP program had been drawn up to provide perspectives on the development and challenges confronting the world especially in the context of America-ASEAN relations.

The young envoys had been selected through tight competition and were required to be able to represent Indonesian youths at domestic and international events.
