Ulama Forum Denies Hiding Munarman

Bandung: Head of the Indonesian Ulamas Forum (FUUI) KH Athian Ali Muhammad Da'i has said he is upset about his organization being accused hiding Munarman, leader of the Laskar Islam Command who is being hunted by the police.

“We never have had any contact at all,” said Athian in Bandung yesterday (8/6).

Akhian suggested the police the hunt for Munarman without announcing there will be searches at Islamic boarding schools.

“It will unrest the people and create new problem,” he said.

Regarding the incident on 1 June at the National Monument in Jakarta, Athian called on all parties to respect the judicial process currently being carried out.

According to Athian, the problem had been ignited by the government delaying its decision to close down Ahmadiyah.

The government's promise to issue a joint decree banning Ahmadiyah has been playing on Moslems’ feelings.

Athian has threatened to involve the international community if the government does not act firmly about Ahmadiyah by sending letters to the King of Saudi Arabia and the President of the Organization of Islamic Conference to ban Ahmadiyah followers from entering Makkah and Madinah cities as they are not considered to be real Moslems.

“This has already been decided by Ulamas around the world,” he said.
