Colombo (ANTARA News/Kyodo) - At least 17 people were injured Wednesday in a blast along the railway line in Colombo, police and witnesses said.
An improvised explosive device had been planted on the track between the Dehiwela and Wellawatte railway stations in a southern neighborhood of the Sri Lankan capital, the head of the government railway said.
Police blamed the bombing on Tamil Tiger rebels seeking a homeland in the northern and eastern parts of the country.
First reports did not indicate any deaths and track damage was minimal, a railway spokesman said.
