Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA News)- Yusril Ihza Mahendra, chief patron of the Crescent and Star Party (PBB) expressed hope that the party will support him to become presidential candidate in the 2009 presidential election.

"I hope to race for the next presidency through PBB, so that the party should gain enough votes to support me for the presidency," he told the press before delivering a speech at a discussion held by the Indonesian Muslim Students Action Front (KAMMI) here on Tuesday.

Yusril, who was former Minister/State Secretary said further, in a bid to race for the presidency, he had held roadshows in some regions.

"We have toured many regions. On last Sunday I went to Buton, South Sulawesi and then to Makassar, and I have just returned from Gorontalo (North Sulawesi) last night to prepare for the 2009 general elections as well as for the direct presidential election," he said.

Thus, whether or not to become a presidential candidate, it will depend much upon the results of 2009 general elections, which will be participated in by tens of political parties.

"We will talk about the map after the general elections and of course I hope to race through the PBB," he added.
