Jakarta: Deputy for Infrastructure at the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas), Dedy Priatna, has said Indonesia will receive funding assistance for flood management.

This will be in the form of a US$135 million loan from the World Bank, and US$10 million in assistance from Holland.

The funding will help the construction of seawall and “It will be used also for a pilot project of integrating the west and east flood canals, “said Dedy.

In addition to developing this project, Bappenas is currently trying to extend the project to include dredging canals or rivers, as well as micro-drainage projects that will be transferred from municipal governments.

“These will be handled by PT Cipta Karya,” said Dedy.

Later, work will be shared between municipal governments and the private sector.

“Regional governments are likely to handle the waste from dredging projects,” said Dedy.
