Tolitoli, Central Sulawesi, (ANTARA News) - A landslide buried seven houses at Doyan village, Galang sub district, Tolitoli District, Central Sulawesi Province, late Tuesday.

The landslide occurred at between 8 and 9 pm local time and buried the houses under one meter of mud and debris but it claimed no life. Tenants of the buried houses evacuated to neighbors` homes.

"All of the landslide victims evacuated with the assistance of local residents, and there is no report of casualties in the disaster," a local resident said.

The landslide cut off land transportation routes in Galang sub district.

Personnel from the Tolitoli naval base have been mobilized to help clear the mud on roads and houses.

"The houses have been left vacant to prevent possible casualties," Lt Col Charmady, commander of the Tolitoli naval base, said here on Wednesday.

Incessant downpours since Tuesday afternoon triggered flooding and landslides in Tolitoli. The floods damaged a bridge which connected Tolitoli to Lalos airport.

Many streets in the city turned into rivers and the flood waters continued to spread and covered two-thirds of the city forcing residents to move to higher ground.
