Semarang, C Java, June 14 (ANTARA News) - Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X is considered to be Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY)`s ideal running mate in the 2009 presidential polls, according to a new survey.

The survey conducted by the National Survey Institute (LSN) involved 1,225 respondents with a margin of error of 2.8 percent and confidence rate of 95 percent. The samples were collected using the multi-stage random sampling method.

The SBY-Sultan pair had always remained in the lead in the survey since January 2008, LSN Executive Director Umar S. Bakry said on Saturday.

"Sultan is always rated high no matter with whoever he was paired. But the highest rating went to the SBY-Sultan pair," he said.

According to him, 51 percent of respondents said they would vote for the SBY-Sultan duo if SBY picked the sultan as his running mate in the 2009 presidential polls.

In January 2008, the SBY-Sultan pair was rated the highest with a 50 percent share of respondents, leaving behind the Megawati-Wiranto pair with a 46.3 percent share, he said.

The other most popular pairs are the SBY-Wiranto pair (47.9 percent), SBY-Prabowo (45.7 percent), SBY-Hidayat (44.7 percent), Megawati-Wiranto (44.3 percent), Megawati-Sultan (43.5 percent), Sultan-Wiranto (42.3 percent), Wiranto-Sultan (41.8 percent), Prabowo-Sultan (41.2 percent) and Megawati-Prabowo (41 percent).
