Jakarta: As much as 600 megawatt of electricity will be off today in Java and Bali today (17/6) meaning black-outs in many areas.

In Jakarta, the power black-outs will be centered in the Gambir and Tanjung Priok districts.

The electricity has been off in some places in Java and Bali since last night.

Supriyanto, Corporate secretary of the state electricity company PLN said that the black-outs were because several power plants in Java and Bali were not operating.

“The capability of our power plants is limited,” said Supriyanto in Jakarta yesterday.

When one unit breaks down broken, the power is off.

Yesterday three power plants were disrupted and power had to be diverted from the Cilacap steam-powered electricity generating plant (PLTU) thus reducing its power to 260 megawatts.

“We have a total electricity deficit of between 1,100 and 1,200 megawatt.”

PLN said that it has repaired the 600-megawatt PLTU Suralaya and claimed that it will work normally today,

However, there has been no report about whether PLTU Paiton has been repaired or not.

According to PLN, nothing is wrong with the power plants but electricity consumption has risen.

Many manufacturers now use PLN and have stopped using diesel power plants as diesel prices have increased.

In order to prevent blackouts, PLN is asking customers to economize their electricity usage.
