Djoko Suprapto Reported to Police

Yogyakarta: The University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) reported Djoko Suprapto to the Yogyakarta regional Police today (17/6).

UMY said it considered Djoko had deceived the university and the general public by promising independent power plants.

On Saturday last week, UMY reported Suprapto of tricking the university out of Rp1 billion that was used for his 'Blue Energy' project.

However, he has denied this project (Koran Tempo newspaper, edition dated 15 June, 2008).

UMY's attorney, Mochtar Zuhdi, said his team has collected information from experts saying that Suprapto's project built in the university was not a power-plant project.

One of the experts is Dr. Sarjiyo from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering, at the University of Gadjah Mada.

“If Djoko can give back the funding provided by UMY, then this case does not have to be taken to court,” said Mochtar.

Djoko claimed that he has returned funds amounting to Rp1.3 billion to UMY, as announced by Johny Nelson Simanjuntak, a member of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM).

UMY's public relations head, Twediana Budi Hapsari denied this.

Djoko Suprapto promised to present his findings to the public by June 20 at the latest.
