Jakarta: Members of Commission X at the House of Representatives (DPR), Didi Rachbini and Munawar Soleh, inspected the Indonesian Maritime Higher Education (STIP) facility in Marunda, Jakarta. They were looking into the situation after the violence between students that made freshman Agung Bastian Gultom die.

“The school's president does not know anything about this violence,” said Didik.

During the inspection, Didik and Munawar saw the lecturing activity and facility at the 32-hectare campus. They also talked to some of STIP undergraduates.

Agung died after attending the following the sword ceremony on May 12th. The examination at the Koja hospital at North Jakarta showed bruises on parts of his body.

Didik asked one cadet at STIP about the violence on campus. “There is no violence here, sir,” said the cadet trembling, after answering questions.

Munawar Soleh said the Commission X will review the lecturing activity at other schools, not only the schools under the Education Department. STIP itself is under the Transportation Department.

“Higher-rated schools should coordinate with the Intermediate and the Higher Education Agency (Dikmenti) at the Education Department,” said Munawar.

Because of the violence at STIP, STIP's Rector Rusman Hoesein has become non-activated. His position is temporarily held by the head of Maritime Education and Training, Department of Transportation, Djoko Pramono.

In order to supervise the violence at STIP, Djoko will intensify the monitoring over the students attitude. “Especially supervision outside of their classes, like in their dormitories.”
