Actress Julia McKenzie has made her first appearance as Agatha Christie's crime-solving spinster Miss Marple.

McKenzie was pictured on set wearing Miss Marple's trademark tweeds during filming of ITV1's Murder Is Easy in Blewbury, Oxfordshire.

She has taken over from Geraldine McEwan, who announced her retirement from the role earlier this year.

Agatha Christie fans will be keen to see how McKenzie will interpret Miss Marple. She is the seventh actress to play the much-loved sleuth, following the likes of Gracie Fields, Margaret Rutherford and Angela Lansbury.

Joan Hickson was perhaps the best known, playing her on the BBC from 1984 to 1992.

Murder Is Easy sees Miss Marple investigate a series of murders in the hitherto peaceful village of Wychwood-under-Ashe, aided by handsome former policeman Luke Fitzwilliam (Benedict Cumberbatch).

The two-hour film, to be broadcast later this year, also co-stars Sylvia Syms and Jemma Redgrave.
