Cilacap, Central Java (ANTARA) - The three men sentenced to death for their roles in the 2002 Bali bombings - Amrozi, Imam Samudra and Mukhlas - are ready to undergo execution provided it is done in accordance with Islamic law, their lawyer said.

"In principle, it (the planned execution) is no problem, as long as it has strong legal basis," Achmad Michdan, coordinator of the Muslim Lawyers` Team (TPM), said here on Thursday, on his way to Nusakambangan Island where the three convicts are incarcerated.

He said his clients (the three convicts) were currently waiting for a legal decision of the Supreme Court on the final legal review (appeal) that they had filed.

They filed the legal review by themselves, but there was no information whether the appeal had been submitted or not, he said.

He emphasized that there should be an optimal legal process for his clients who were sentenced to death for the Bali bombings in 2002.

The TPM would request an open and transparent court hearing of the three convicts` last appeal because the issue had come into the international spotlight, he said.

Besides, there was also a problem on whether Law No. 15/2003 on Terrorism could be applied retroactively, he said.

Michdan also said that his team would also file for a judicial review on the country`s Law on terrorism because the law had some fundamental flaws.

Michdan was accompanying a number of the three convicts` relatives who wanted to visit the island accommodating prisoners jailed for serious crimes.

The Bali terror attacks killed more than 180 people, including Australian tourists, in October 2002.
