The couple, who began dating in December 2004, are set to exchange vows at a small intimate ceremony with just a few friends and family at their $29 million home in Beverly Hills.

DeGeneres, 50, best known in Britain as the star of the sitcom Ellen, is now one of America's most popular daytime talk show hosts.

She announced in May on her show that she intended to marry De Rossi, 35, who made her name with a glamorous turn in the legal comedy drama Ally McBeal, shortly after the California Supreme Court ruled that same sex couples have the "right to marry".

DeGeneres gave De Rossi a pink diamond ring for their engagement. She said at the time: "It's something that we've wanted to do and we want it to be legal and we are very, very excited." She told the lesbian and gay website advocate.com that De Rossi is her "perfect fit" as a partner. "She's taught me lessons about myself, and I feel like I've taught her." At the Emmy awards in June, television's Oscars, she added: "I think someday people will look back on this like women not having the right to vote and segregation and anything else that seems ridiculous that we don't all have the same rights."
