I would like to see imperfect baby pictures in advertising

Have you ever noticed that all the babies and toddlers in Parents’ (and all the other parenting magazines) show babies in the thick of some moment where no food, stains, or drool has hit the outfit they’re wearing.

This is fine for the little baby-babys because they don’t get much on their clothing – heck I remember in the thick of both the kids being little I’d let a onsie go for two or three days before changing the newborn into a new one. I mean, why not? They don’t perspire, when they’re really tiny they don’t even drool much. If they don’t barf, there’s nothing to get on the onsie.

With toddlers, I think all pictures should be true to life. Sure there is going to be that one fluke kid that wants to stay clean even at 2. Props to that kid and his perfect looking pictures, but I think that in the next issue of Parenting or Parents or even the sale paper from Kohl’s I get on Sunday should have what the clothing will look like after one of my girls has been wearing it for fifteen minutes.

Gymboree T-Shirt
Blue with Embossed Crocodile
Shown with Chocolate Milk Stain
Sizes: 2T-6x
Price: $14.95

That would make my decisions so much easier. Picture the scene:

Mom: Honey, grab a shirt for little Sadie!
Dad: Which one?
Mom: We’re going to Nana’s house and she always gives them chocolate milk…*pause*…Oh! Grab the blue shirt with the crocodile on it, that looks good with chocolate milk on it!

Wouldn’t that make life easier?

    Hi Jenny,

If you want to see a baby drooling in marketing material, I hope you will visit baby chaleco’s website. I went out of my way to find at least one model that drools for our photo shoot, and despite the protests of my photographer, kept the dribbles on little baby alex’s chin in the final shot. (he’s the little boy wearing a blue whale with brown sleeves)

Drooling, dribbles and life’s little messes are what baby chaleco is all about, and we are happy to solve the dilemma you described about looking for a clean top stylishly. Our goal? One stylish garment that lasts all day so you will have less to carry, less to change and less to wash.

Got something to say?
