SDCC '08: Red-Band Trailer For 'Quarantine'

Shown earlier today at the San Diego Comic Con was Sony Screen Gems' red-band trailer for Quarantine, which arrives in theaters October 10th. Directed by John Erick Dowdle from a script by John and his brother Drew, Jennifer Carpenter stars as a reporter who becomes "quarantined" in an apartment complex with a bunch of residents.

SDCC '08: 'The Wolfman' Remake Footage Seen!

Special FX guru Rick Baker, along with stars Benicio Del Toro and Emily Blunt showed up at the San Diego Comic Con yesterday to unveil the first ever look at Universal Pictures' remake of The Wolfman. The film directed by Joe Johnston looks oddly reminiscent of BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, with rich, lush sets... and Anthony Hopkins. In the clip we see Benecio covered in ripped clothes, and a severed body with entrails. Emily Blunt joked about hanging out with gazelles for inspiration, while Benicio talked a bit about finding real inspiration. "We took it back to the convention of the original Lon Chaney film." WOLFMAN returns to theaters April 3, 2009.

SDCC '08: 'My Name is Bruce Art', Release Month

While walking around the San Diego Comic Con we were given a CD that featured new artwork for My Name is Bruce, which was written and directed by Bruce Campbell. In addition, the CD confirms a November release date for the film that he also stars in. MY NAME IS BRUCE is the tale of a small town set upon by demons after a group of teen-agers unwittingly unleash an ancient curse. Campbell, playing himself, is kidnapped off the set of a B horror movie and, despite his protestations that he's just an actor, is forced to play the role of his heroic movie character in order to save the town.

SDCC '08: Men in Black Producer Onboard 'Spooks' Adaption

MEN IN BLACK producer Barry Josephson announced at the San Diego Comic Con that he has attached himself to a live-action adaptation of Ryan Shifrin's SPOOKS, which is now available in TPB form from Devil's Due. Larry Hama (G.I. Joe). Josephson will be searching for a writer. It is expected to be a summer tent-pole film. Shifrin directed ABOMINABLE, which is now on DVD from Anchor Bay. SPOOKS is the unofficial name for the United States Department of Supernatural Defense (DOSD), a high-tech secret branch of the military that protects American borders from nightmarish creatures. And when the king of all vampires allies with the deadliest of witches, their terrorist plot unleashes an invasion of classic monsters on U.S. soil, propelling the Spooks team into action.

SDCC '08: Alex Aja Compares 'Piranha' Remake to 'Dead Alive'!

While promoting his upcoming horror film MIRRORS, BC caught up with director Alex Aja at the San Diego Comic Con who broke some really interesting news on his 3-D remake of Piranha, which he'll be directing next for Dimension Films. "PIRANHA is huge budget - I wanted to make something different," he tells Bloody-Disgusting. "[It will be] really fun and entertaining, in the vein of DEAD ALIVE." If this film is as gory as DEAD ALIVE, consider this reporter in horror heaven. MIRRORS arrives in theaters August 15th.

SDCC '08: [REC] Remake Arriving on DVD This Year?

We reported this late last year, and it has still yet to be confirmed, but the Dowdle brothers are quite sure that Sony Home Entertainment is planning to release the Spanish horror film [REC] (review) on DVD/Blu-ray later this year, alongside the release of the remake, Quarantine, which arrives in theaters October 10th. "REC" turns on a young TV reporter and her cameraman who cover the night shift at the local fire station. Receiving a call from an old lady trapped in her house, they reach her building to hear horrifying screams -- which begin a long nightmare and a uniquely dramatic TV report.

B-D reader 'Joey M.' came across the official teaser poster for Lionsgate's My Bloody Valentine 3-D and sent us the pic, which you can check out inside. SDCC '08: Robert Englund Teases Snow White-esque Horror Film

B-D reporter BC caught up with Robert Englund at the San Diego Comic Con to chat about his upcoming horror film, JACK BROOKS: MONSTER SLAYER. While talking monsters and gore, Englund revealed exclusively to Bloody-Disgusting that he has another horror project in the works, that's like a scary SNOW WHITE. "I'm directing [another] movie. [It's] kind of a dark fairy tale" he explains. "A fallen priest, a fallen angel... a monster and a dead girl in suspended animation - kind of SNOW WHITE." The movie is based on story by Russian author Nikokai Gogol. No other details were given.

Indie Film 'Case 219' Takes Doc Road

We caught wind of a really cool new indie feature now casting entitled CASE 219, which will be directed by James Bruce from his own script. Told from multiple perspectives in the aftermath of a high school shooting, “Case 219” tells the haunting story of three misfit teens. Shot documentary and interview style, it explores the tragedy of school violence and the extreme effects of bullying. Based on the novel “Shooter” by award winning children’s author Walter Dean Myers.

Now this is kinda disappointing... this afternoon the official trailer was released for the long, long, long delayed Return to Sleepaway Camp, which arrives on DVD October 14th from Magnolia Pictures. It's summer camp as usual at Camp Manabe where the kids torment each other for fun while the underpaid camp staff provide as little supervision as possible. Greedy camp owner Frank (Vincent Pastore) and junior partner Ronnie (Paul DeAngelo) do their best to keep everyone in line, but something sinister is about to put a slash in the roster. When campers and staff mysteriously begin disappearing and turning into gruesome corpses, paranoid Ronnie can't shake the memory of a series of grisly murders that took place at Camp Arawak where he worked 2 decades ago. 20th Century Fox provided us with a featurette for Alex Aja's Mirrors, which is centered around the already infamous jaw-rip scene starring Amy Smart. The story follows a security guard at a high-end department store who begins to investigate mysterious deaths occurring in front of the stores' mirrors. He soon discovers that there are murderous reflections out for revenge.

SDCC '08: Crazy 'Chopper Zombie' Bike on Display

On display at the San Diego Comic Con was a real-life bike from the comic book Chopper Zombie, which was announced that it will be adapted as a live-action feature film a few weeks back. The bike motorcycle was created by Rob Hall's (Laid to Rest) Almost Human FX shop for the show. The comi is about a motorcycle builder who refuses to sell his formula for a new superfuel to a dangerous corporation. When a team of thugs drowns him in his own toxic creation, he rises from the dead with a score to settle.

SDCC '08: 'Friday the 13th' Hard 'R', Deleted Scenes For DVD

Bloody-Disgusting caught up with Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller who will be at the San Diego Comic Con this Sunday promoting both Friday the 13th and The Unborn. He reveales to B-D that they shot multiple endings to FRIDAY, which might make it on the DVD release. "Nispel's cut will be too long, we will need to make cuts," explaining that there will be deleted scenes on the DVD. In addition, Fuller explains that Jason Voorhees' return to Camp Crystal Lake won't be a walk in the park. "There's hardcore violence, radical sex - it's crazy hardcore in every way!" During an interview with Alex Aja at the San Diego Comic Con, he revealed that we might finally see a DVD release of his '99 movie, FURIA, on DVD sometime soon. The film is a futuristic fable comparable to George Orwell's 1984, FURIA offers a bleak peek into humankind's possible fate. Check out the teaser poster that was on display at this week's San Diego Comic Con for The Goon. The Goon is a comic book series created by Eric Powell in 1999. While news came in at the San Diego Comic Con that Sony Home Entertainment had announced an October 21st release for Blu-ray editions of both GHOSTBUSTERS and GHOSTBUSTERS II, no extras were revealed. After doing some digging we discovered that there are plans to include a brand new documentary for the release of the films in hi-def. More details on the doc as it comes, but from what we're told it should be huge.

'Poltergeist' Remake Confirmed in Press Release

After getting blasted by idiotic fan sites who claimed they "called Spielberg" (hahaha yeah, right), we kept on trucking in reporting that there was a remake to Poltergeist in the works. I'm not saying I am happy to report it, I'm just saying that it... IS. The news has first hit here on our site in November of 2006, and then we personally confirmed it here on November of 2007. This afternoon The Hollywood Reporter wrote a piece on the new ROBOCOP remake and within the article MGM confirms - for the first time in written form - that a remake to POLTERGEIST is in fact in the works. We'll look into telling you who is in talks to direct and report back (I'm a tease, I know).

Universal Launches 'Wolfman' Website

Even though you've already seen everything on there, today Universal Pictures launched the official website for their remake of The Wolfman, which arrives in theaters April 3rd. Like the 1941 original that starred Lon Chaney Jr., new pic will be set in Victorian England. Del Toro will play a man who returns from America to his ancestral homeland, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence.

Platinum Dunes Still Not Signed For 'Elm Street' Remake?

Here's some crazy news for to chew on while we run back and forth at this week's San Diego Comic Con. We chatted with Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller who tells us that they have yet to officially sign on to produce the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake for Warner Bros. Pictures' division New Line Cinema. Earlier this week it was announced that veteran scribe Wesley Strick (Cape Fear, Doom) to pen the relaunch. Watch for any updates as they come in.

B-D reporter BC was on the red carpet for THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL at this weeks San Diego Comic Con and had the chance to talk to star Keanu Reeves about his role in the remake. During the chat, Reeves revealed that Warner Bros. is no longer working on a sequel to CONSTANTINE, the adaptation of the popular comic book Hellblazer. "We got killed by [it] being an "R-rated" movie," Reeves explains. He tells us that he was in fact interested, but the movie just didnt make enough [at the box office]. One of the coolest props at this week's San Diego Comic Con is a giant monster from Anchor Bay's upcoming Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (review), which arrives on DVD October 7th. Inside you can take a look at one of the big baddies in the film directed by Jon Knautz. Jack Brooks is an angry, young plumber who has repressed the memory of witnessing his familys brutal murder. Today Thomas Jane was rocking a booth solely for the purpose of promoting Simon Hunter's The Mutant Chronicles, which he stars in. Anchor Bay announced this week at the San Diego Comic Con that DEAD SPACE: DOWNFALL will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD October 28th. Best known as Jay from the popular Kevin Smith film, Jason Mewes' career seems to have taken a turn towards the dark side as he's set to topline another horror film. Entitled Silent But Deadly, the slasher pic is set to lens this August in Ontario, Canada. Mewes recently starred in David Arquette's THE TRIPPER and also played a role in Dimension Films' FEAST. He got his start back in the 1994 in Kevin Smith's CLERKS.

MTV Does the Time Warp to 'Rocky' Remake

After a long delay, it looks like MTV will be remaking the classic 75 cult pic THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, which will feature new music with the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien sticking intact. There was no announcement on cast or a director at the moment, but expect some movement soon (in the form of the Time Warp, I assume). Timetable for the start of production hasn't been established yet but the partners aim to move forward quickly once the final elements are in place. "I'd like to see it shown a year from this coming Halloween, but that's up to MTV," Adler said. The original "Rocky Horror," starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Meatloaf, has grossed $140 million in domestic box office over the years, primarily from the wallets of youthful audience members who have shown up for midnight screenings over the past three decades.

At the Dimension Extreme/Genius Products booth we stumbled across the first art and an awesome prop for John Gulager's Feast 2: Sloppy Seconds, which arrives on DVD October 7th. It is the morning after, and we pick up with the survivors of "Feast's terrifying night before. There are more monsters and they are even angrier/hungrier. The monsters have made it into the small neighboring town in the middle of nowhere and the surviving locals have to band together to figure out how to survive. Like that is even a real possibility. Will Honey Pie pay for her desertion? Will Tuffy make it to Heroine's kid in time? Is that Harley Mom's twin sister? So many questions, it will take another sequel to answer them all. Announced this morning as part of this year's "Midnight Madness" - Toronto International Film Festival horror program - is Acolytes, which we found the teaser for early last week. Today the full traler was discovered by Twitch and can be viewed inside. When they discover the body of a murdered Canadian backpacker buried in the woods, three high school students trace the crime back to a suspected killer. Taking full advantage of their situation, they attempt to blackmail their suspect into killing again. Their target? A brutal bully recently released from prison who has victimized them all their lives. Up until now it was unclear exactly what New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures would be showing from Friday the 13th at this week's San Diego Comic Con. Universal Reveals Full 'Strangers' Specs

Universal Home Video has announced the October 21st DVD release of The Strangers (review), which stars Liv Tyler, and Scott Speedman. DVD Active reports that the disc will include rated (1 Hour 26 Minutes) and unrated (1 Hour 28 Minutes) cuts of the film. Each will be presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround tracks. The only extra material will be deleted scenes, and an Elements of Terror featurette. Arriving to DVD October 14th as part of Lionsgate Home Entertainment and Ghost House Underground's eight releases is Dave Payne's No Man's Land: The Rise of Reeker, the sequel to the International horror thriller hit REEKER, in which a Sheriff and his son try to apprehend bank robbers on their way to Mexico only to find that they are both being stalked by a far more deadly enemy, the fire-wielding Reeker. Trailer For Indie Film 'Scarecrow'

If you head on over to the film's official website, you can check out the brand new trailer for the indie horror film, SCARECROW, which was written and directed by Joseph Bat. In the film, if a scarecrow falls off its cross on All Hallow's Eve and touches the ground, it can be possessed by a spirit. Embodied in the scarecrow's primitive human shape, the resurrected spirit can then proceed to settle scores left unresolved before death.

LOADED 'Constantine' Blu-ray From Warner Home Video

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the Keanu Reeves film Constantine to Blu-ray on October 14th. This film represents another Warner Blu-ray "make-up" title, as it was originally released in high definition on the now defunct HD DVD format in June of 2006. First Look Brings 'Transsiberian' DVD/Blu-ray to the Station

First Look Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Woody Harrelson and Emily Mortimer film Transsiberian (review), which was directed by Brad Anderson, to Blu-ray on November 4th, day-and-date with the DVD release, reports Blu-ray.com. No technical specs or special features have been announced at this time. The story focuses on an American couple that travels on the famous Trans-Siberian train from China to Moscow and encounters another couple. What seems to be a simple train journey soon turns into a thrilling chase full of deception and murder as it becomes clear that not everybody is what they seem.

This afternoon Summit Entertainment has provided us with a bunch of stills from Catherine Hardwicke's Twilight, which arrives in theaters December 12th. The film will be previewed at this week's San Diego Comic Con, so watch this spot for interviews soon. The film is about a high school girl named Bella falls in love with a vampire. I love how 20th Century Fox has responded to fans in their concern over Alex Aja's Mirrors. After the initial teaser trailer, the studio has launched an all-out campaign to prove to us that the movie will in fact be bloody as all hell. Today we've been provided with a new still featuring star Amy Smart in a bloodbath - literally. Read on and chew on the madness. The story follows a security guard at a high-end department store who begins to investigate mysterious deaths occurring in front of the stores' mirrors. He soon discovers that there are murderous reflections out for revenge.

This weekend it was announced that Lionsgate Home Entertainment would be brining all eight Ghost House Underground films to DVD on October 14th. Today the DVD cover art was revealed for six of the eight titles and can be found over at DVD Active. Arriving as individual releases and as a complete box set are: Greg Bishop's SXSW horror-comedy Dance of the Dead, Lordi's Swedish pic Dark Floors, Michael Roesch and Peter Scheerer's vampire pic Brotherhood of Blood, Dave Payne's REEKER sequel No Man's Land: The Rise of the Reeker, the ghost story from Denmark entitled Room 205, LAST HOUSE IN THE WOODS, THE SUBSTITUTE and TRACKMAN.
