Kronwall skates during prospect camp

Defenseman Niklas Kronwall skated and participated in the drills with the Wings’ prospects today to help evaluate how he’s doing after suffering a broken sacrum right before the start of the playoffs.

“It’s a little stiff but it’s always stiff the first time you’re back on the ice,” Kronwall said. “You’re using new muscles you can’t use in the gym regardless of what you do. The first time back, you’re always a little rusty and the puck isn’t your friend. But I’m not concerned. Everything is fine and I can’t wait to get the season started.”

New defenseman Brian Rafalski also made an appearance at Joe Louis Arena, but did not step on the ice. He was there to take a tour of the Joe and have some photos taken.

“It still hasn’t really sunk in,” Rafalski said. “It’s good to be back here in the area and looking for houses, and while driving through all the streets with my wife, know where I’m going and know where all the shortcuts are.

“I’m sure it’ll be exciting that first game and I’ll be nervous, but that’s what training camp is for.”
