Neil Young recently announced plans to put his achives on Blu-ray—with extra content available from the web.

Instead of pushing everyone to go green, rocker Neil Young has another cause to promote: good music quality.
Young is into the green thing. After all, he does have his own 1959 Lincoln electric hybrid. However, at Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech Conference, Young went off, stating that music quality has been brought down to the level of a “Fisher-Price toy.” Perhaps that toy was the iPod? He didn’t hold back about his feelings towards the portable, as well as iTunes, blaming all for decreasing the quality of today’s audio.
“Apple has taken a detour down the convenience highway,” Young told the Brainstorm audience after taking the stage for an interview with Time Inc. editor-in-chief John Huey. “Quality has taken a complete backseat—if it even gets in the car at all.”
Young recently announced that he will release all of his archives on Blu-ray discs later this year. He is hoping other musicians will soon follow suit.

Neil’s music is low quality so it is a perfect match for the iPod.With his catalog coming out on Blu Ray we can now listen to his dribble in TrueHD.

Apple, Bose, Sonos, Sony etc. just make what most people want - style, convenience, and modest prices matter more than sound quality. They’re all acceptable for background music.
Neil and other pro’s hear 24/196k studio masters and are naturally disappointed with what consumers get to hear on 16/44k CD, itunes, MP3, or FM radio. More so when typical consumer players are used. I can’t fault Neil and hope he succeeds in opening some more ears.
