SuperCatBarf It's totally true. Every time I puke on the carpet I spend a few minutes scratching the carpet to "bury" it.

One interesting experience I had years ago with my rat terrier (RIP). I would occasionally bring him a special treat or something from the kitchen. We'd both act out, he'd do his rollover trick, I'd give him the treat, and he would excitedly scarf it down in glee.

However, I one time had a big rawhide bone for the pet store. I overplayed the specialness of the bone. He'd suddenly exhibited a behaviour I'd never seen, and never after that. The 110,000 year old primal urge to bury the mother farker. He suddenly acted anxious, begged at the door to be let out, ran immediately to the rose garden, and proceeded to furiously bury that damn rawhide. There's was no stopping him. He became possessed, and he was going to bury that ridiculous rawhid if it was that last thing he ever did on Earth.

robert schimmel has a lot of animal jokes. if you can get hold of his special on dvd called "unprotected".

one of his bits is like 15 min long about how his dog crapped on the floor and his wife screamed at the dog....

another bit about how one time he had to use the bathroom but the cat had been trained to use the toilet, so he used the litter box and his friends were like "dude! do you have a mountain lion?"

but the best part was when he was taking a crap and his dog walked in on him and said "what the fark are you doing!? I DRINK OUT OF THAT!"

NeuroticRocker 2007-10-26 11:33:14 PM
funny story.

my brothers friends cat had some sort of vaginal infection, so he had to apply the cream....inside.

for like a month, whenever I saw him, I said "hey andy" and made the shocker symbol with my hand.

he said "hey jonah" and gave me the finger.

I just think its funny that he fingers his cat.

He found that many dog lovers, cat owners and even reptile keepers said they shared many of the same traits — such as happiness, intelligence, independence and sense of humour — as their pets.

Well supposedly dogs at least can detect a persons mood/feelings (fear, sadness, anger). If you add to that behavioral modification of the animal on a subconscious or unrecognized level, where the animal starts equating certain moods with positive or negative actions or reinforcement, and its not a far stretch to say that after awhile the dog could start behaving like the owner.

Owner in a bad mood = Dog in a bad mood (Ignored/Scolded)
Owner in a good mood = Dog in a good mood (Paid attention to. Play/Food)

It kinda makes sense.
.....Pavlovs Dog and all that.

People don't gradually begin to look like their pets, nor do pets gradually being to resemble their owners.

People subconsciously select pets that look like them because pets are surrogates for children, and everyone wants their kids to look like themself.

Executive Monkey

People subconsciously select pets that look like them because pets are surrogates for children, and everyone wants their kids to look like themself.

I selected a yorkie because of a few things.
1. They are small(3-7lbs)
2. They dont shed and are hypo-allergenic
3. You can cuddle with them and they wont take up half of the bed.
4. They will alert me if someone is in the drive-way or walks in my house.
5. They dont chew up my stuff around the house

I didnt select a yorkie because of the similiar hair colors or the skin tone, etc...I selected a yorkie because of their characteristics.

I don't remember the name of the disease my cat had. But it affects 1% of cats and is fatal 100% of the time. We do have two more cats. His sister and their incestuous love child, Jessica. We'll probably end up insuring them.

That sucks. Ask whether palliative radiation might be an option, though (if you haven't already looked into it). It bought my Irish Wolfhound, Finian, six months, though he did have the less aggressive type of osteosarcoma.

Executive Monkey: People subconsciously select pets that look like them because pets are surrogates for children, and everyone wants their kids to look like themself.

The cats chose us. Okay, we fed the ones that showed up at the back door and they stayed, but we didn't go out and select them.

Then my theory doesn't apply to you. It only applies to people who go out and select a pet, and even then it's just a psychological tendency, not an iron-clad law of nature.

agreed, executive monkey. actually popped in the thread for the sole purpose of pointing that out as well as the addendum: even if you're going to argue any subconscious decision, the longer you have your pet the longer you have to notice qualities which you think are like you and remember them to report in a survey.

Additionally, the longer you have to notice and reinforce them. I would've bought this a bit more if the psychologist had actually observed the pets and people directly, rather than asking for survey response!

Ow My Balls: This explains my recent propensity for eating turds in the backyard like Pac-Man.

Cram it ape *munch* face. You have no *munch munch* evidence that I *munch* do that!
