Terminator 4 Gets a Director?

The updates on Terminator 4 hit exactly a week ago and today a juicy report from CHUD lays claim to who the director for the film may be. The person their source tells them is "in talks" for the position is McG - he directed both Charlie's Angels movies and last year's We Are Marshall. Their source seems to be very reliable and unlike our mishap the other day, this seems a bit more legitimate - although he's not confirmed beyond just being "in talks."

The story will focus on John Connor organizing the surviving humans to resist Skynet's army of robots. It will take place after the apocalypse (the end of Terminator 3) and likely feature the "origin" story of terminators - "the first time a human looking robot is used to infiltrate the ranks of people." The script was just turned in last week and the Halcyon Company wants to get this film into pre-production right away. You can read more updates on the story and production that were posted last week.

I really don't think McG is the right guy. I wouldn't mind giving some new guy a fighting chance to prove me wrong, but McG just doesn't seem right. Does anyone really think the guy who made the Charlie's Angels movies can put out a Terminator movie that lives up to even anything close to Terminator 2?! In addition to being far inexperienced, he seems too "soft" to make a truly gritty Terminator movie, but that's just me.

The production company anticipates that Terminator 4 will be ready for release sometime in 2009 (as reported last week), if not earlier depending on if and when everything comes together.

I certainly don't want to defend McG, as I think he's a hack with a capital "H"; but rather buy into the "you never know" school. I mean, I nearly had a fit of apoplexy when they named Jon Favreau (Elf?!) as the director of Iron Man. And look at the job he seems to have done with that. Just sayin'.
