Liev Schreiber Cast as Sabretooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

It's already been mentioned numerous times previously, but X-Men Origins: Wolverine is already looking like one hell of an awesome comic book movie. The latest casting development rumor comes from CHUD, who reports that Liev Schreiber has been cast as Victor Creed, aka Sabretooth, instead of young William Stryker. It's rumored that the role of Stryker will instead be filled by Michael C. Hall, of "Dexter" fame. This disproves the previous rumor that CHUD reported about Gerard Butler being cast as Creed, but alas, nothing is officially confirmed just yet.

I'm definitely as excited as Devin over at CHUD is, if this turns out being 100% true. Liev Schreiber is an incredible actor and I have my full confidence in director Gavin Hood. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is sounding better and better every day, and a story surrounding Sabretooth could really turn out great, especially in connection with the pre-existing X-Men universe. X-Men Origins: Wolverine tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.

Sabretooth's only previous appearance on film was in the first X-Men, where he was played by the massive (6' 8") Tyler Mane. Sabretooth has been rumored as the villain in the primary storyline along with Silver Fox, but nothing has been confirmed (or denied for that matter). CHUD is also saying that the gorgeous Michelle Monaghan is being eyed for the role of Silver Fox, but that's not confirmed either.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Gavin Hood (Tsotsi, Rendition) and written by David Benioff (25th Hour, Troy, The Kite Runner). The movie arrives in theaters on May 1st, 2009.

Wow Liev Schreiber? He doesn't seem big enough to be Sabretooth...

"Liev Schreiber is an incredible actor" I have yet to see when and where this is remotley true, this guy actually does nothing for me, hes drab, boring, uninteresting and completely devoid of emotion on screen. So wtf?

"I have yet to see when and where this is remotley true," 'Talk Radio" on broadway in 2007

Liev has worked with Hugh before, in Kate and Leopold. Besides Talk Radio on Broadway, he won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play in 2005 for Glengarry Glen Ross - Hugh was hosting the awards show that night and was on stage when Billy Crystal gave him the award. So it sounds like we may have two Tony-winning actors (Hugh won for Boy from Oz in 2004) squaring off!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here, but I'm already seeing some sort of continuity problems. If not continuity at least stretching the bounds of believability. We have a young Victor Creed, a young William Stryker, but yet, Wolverine is still the relatively aged Hugh Jackman? Are they going to fix him up all pretty and young like they did Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan in X-Men 3? I'll go see it still, of course, but something isn't fitting together well here already.

Since Wolverine has the mutant ability of enhanced healing, he has actually lived for a really long time... I think since the 1800s if I remember correctly, so it makes sense for him to look the same now as he did in the years the Wolvie movie takes place.

William, I'm guessing it'll all work out, but it won't be with a few little tweaks here and there. Kind of like how Star Wars was made then the prequels came, so of course they've got to work things out to end up the way they do - same with this and the X-Men movies... I think...

I will see just about any movie Hugh Jackman is in...and Wolverine is one of his best roles. Liev Schrieber only adds to the interest...there is just something about that guy. He's not movie star handsome, but he is someone I like to watch on screen. He has a dark intensity when he acts. Quiet. And now Michael C. Hall? This film is going to rock!

Jeez Alex, watch your mouth! Mentioning the Star Wars prequels in the same sentence as a prequel that might actually be decent?! Bad form 😛 On the Liev Schrieber topic, I liked his creepy performance in "Phantoms" (I know, horrible movie...but he was pretty good in it!), so I'd like to see what direction he can take the "mindless killing machine" that is Sabretooth.

I don't care if he won a friggin oscar, if it was for something I think sucked, and pretty much 90% of movie goers haven't seen then its really just bs right? right.

Michael C. Hall?! That's Awesome! I love that guy And Liev Schrieber ?! That guys is awesome too! Now im actually pumped for this...as long as they don't put bone class in it....retardedness

Well since Wolverines healing factor makes his age undeterminable it makes sense that he looks the same then as he does now and vice versa. He was an adult when Stryker was born. But Creed has the same healing factor, so how does a "Young Creed" work? And Schrieber is a decent actor, but i still need to be convinced that he can pull off a maniacal-homicidal-i-dont-give-a-fuck-at-all-killer that is Sabretooth. But Im rooting for him tho.Michael C. Hall? Sheer genuis! Ive been a fan of his since Six Feet Under. This looks very promising indeed. I hope it will bring what the X-Men movies have been lacking.

I was pumped when I heard there would be a Wolverine movie, but I don't think Liev Schrieber can pull off Sabretooth. I was disappointed when I heard that. Hopefully, him aside it'll be a good movie.

I agree... please don't ever ever ever put "star wars: prequels" in the same paragraph as x-men.. don't jinx this movie... Okay okay so Hugh Jackman as wolverine? Would you honestly go see it if it wasn't him as wolverine and it make sense like everyone else has pointed out, him being an excellent actor doesn't hurt either. Michael Hall... freakin love that guy, genius! Liev Schrieber... I think he'll give depth to the sabertooth character... Maybe we don't want? idk maybe we do. It looks like sabertooth is going to have some lines in this film, so why not get an actor thats goin to make use of that... I have high hopes for this one folks.. Now i ask that we all sit in silence as we all cross our fingers
