Get Smart Trailer

A brand new trailer for Get Smart has finally debuted. I talked extensively about how awesome this was in my WonderCon coverage, and now it's finally here! Get Smart stars Steve Carell as Agent 86 and Anne Hathaway as Agent 99 and is based on the classic Mel Brooks TV show. This looks amazingly hilarious! I know I say that a lot, but this time I'm 100% there. Steve Carell looks like he's going to pull off Maxwell Smart almost better than Don Adams, and even Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson looks hilarious. And did I mention Anne Hathaway is smokin' hot? Especially in those cute pink undies... Now I'm think you really NEED to watch this!

My opinion of TV properties adapted for movies is usually pretty low. Typically, the older the TV, the lower my expectations go. But I like the look of this trailer. Carell has always been an excellent straight man and he's playing this one so straight you can practically see the rod jammed up his...

Stole two shots directly from Enemy of the State at the beginning, but it looks very original. Just hope they dont give to many lines to Hathaway as she is liable to fuck the entire thing up. I fucking hate Anne Hathaway. And I must say it, the use of Ode to Joy was extremely out of place in this trailer. The last joke was really stupid also, but I love where this is going. Looks incredible. Not so happy about the cone of silence gag though. I dont really like it when movies try to bring back shit like that from the TV show, plus it wasnt really that good of a joke, it was just Carrel being a genius that got a laugh out of me.

I saw this movie like a month ago at a test screening in nyc and it wasn't as funny as the trailers lead it to be.

ok, the concept did nothing for me, but that trailer is pitch perfect. Top silence timing.

Wow, Hathaway looks absolutely stunning. This trailer just made my hangover headache worse from all the laughing... well worth it though!

hmmmm a high tech cone of silence? I don't think I like that, it ruins the entire bit. It definately seems funny, but the TV show still looks better, even after all these years... I think I'll wait to rent it instead.

This might, MIGHT actually be funny! Hurray!

OK... I had a lot of Nasty, mean things to say about you touting this as a good film until I just saw that trailer. I can't wait to see my wife's face when she sees that screen shot of one of her favorite actresses.(yes, my wife LOVED Ella Enchanted and the Princess Diaries 1 & 2) Oh Alex, I have to bring up that Anne Hathaway will be at ShoWest, she is accepting the Female Star of the Year. .. but then again.. you are heading back south before the awards night... doubt we will see the pink panties.. but she is attractive and fun either way.

Why does it have to be PG13? Come on! My 8 year old LOVES Get Smart and has been waiting for this for 2 years! Maybe we can take him to see it anyway....and he won't be scarred for life seeing 99 in her undies. Or maybe he'll like it, who knows?

I didn't know about this! Thanks for posting! I always loved Get Smart and I think Steve Carell was a great choice to play Maxwell Smart.

Are you serious? Pete Segal, comedic mastermind? Have you actually SEEN 50 First Dates or Anger Management?

The trailer looks GREAT! The cone of silence wasn't much of a cone even for the future now was it, but I think Anne Hathaway is STUNNING! She has alook that we should see more of. Now let me see if I can find a shot of those pink panties I've been hearing about. Can't wait to see the movie. OH, this is for the guy who hates Anne Hathaway. You must be joking!

Okay. So I am one of the lucky few who have actually seen this movie. A friend invited me to a viewing and he wouldn't tell me what I was going to see. Anyway, the movie is unbelievably hilarious. This trailer looks great, but I can honestly say it doesn't do the movie justice. I don't think I have ever laughed that hard and for that long. I can't wait to see it again as I am sure I laughed straight through some great jokes. This WILL BE the funniest movie of the year.

az_runner on Feb 28, 2008

22

Good grief. Steve Carell is one of the few people who could pull this off. However, I don't think the show can be properly adapted for today's audience. The trailer ends with an homage to the TV show, "Missed it by that much" in Don Adams' voice. The "cone of silence" gag looks like it's completely off the mark. And all the James Bond references from the TV show will be completely lacking, since this is a modern telling of the story. Back then, everyone knew Bond, so the jokes were easy to pick up on. Today, nobody knows who James Bond is, lost within all the crap knock-off spy movies. How did the people who wrote "Failure to Launch" land this writing gig?

Chris Clarke on Feb 28, 2008

23

Sorry, but this is flat compared to the original show. They are trying to hard to be a cross of action and comedy, and as a result lose all the intellectual humor. They need to keep it along the lines of the Naked Gun and they would have something. And Steve Carell is nowhere near Don Adams in funny.

Dude on Feb 28, 2008

24

Ah, yes, clearly you have gathered that there is a lack of intellectual humor from a 2 minute clip.

Devin on Feb 28, 2008

Oh god, this looks terrible. Steve Carell is talented but keeps getting stuck in shitty movies, such a shame.

I was quite enjoying the whole thing until you wrote "comedic mastermind Pete Segal". I'm sorry but your either a fan boy or an idiot. Tho I LOVED that trailer, it might just actually be good. And Anne Hathaway oh MAN!

psycho.chicken on Feb 28, 2008

28

Personally, I think the trailer looks great. The silences are the funniest bit, just as they should be, and Steve Carell is the only guy who could pick up Don Adams' phone shoes (which had better make an appearance!) and make it work, in my opinion. Anne Hathaway looks stunning, of course, and I expect she'll have fun in the role. Looking forward to seeing it. I have fond memories of watching the show as a kid.

Brian #19, he's actually not that bad. 50 First Dates is a good movie, I liked it. And the point is that he's been making comedies for 14 years, starting with Tom Arnold: The Naked Truth and Naked Gun 33 1/3. A guy who's still making good comedies 14 years later must be pretty damn good at it, I'd say?

Alex Billington on Feb 29, 2008

31

That actually looks better than I had hoped. I'm not a big Steve Carell fan, but he's a good fit fr the role. Anne Hathaway is stunning. She's also a good cast for Agent 99, and she is VERY easy on the eyes. This one might make some money...

looks great, alex any news on hathaway in hoodwinked 2? i loved the first one and imdb has it rumored shes to be in a sequel

Chris: What do you mean nobody knows who James Bond is? He's still known world-wide, and with the revamped franchise he's only getting more popular. Dude: I love how you knock Get Smart for apparently lacking "intellectual humor", but then mention The Naked Gun series as something it should model. LMAO.

David on Mar 11, 2008

34

okay, seriously...who the fuck finds Anne Hathaway so sexy and hot?? She is absolutely disgusting and have ruined the entire movie for me. Without the ton of make up on she's a total wench, does she really have anything else aside from those boobs no on can miss??

To: pigs (#34) It's obvious that you are a fat cow of a woman sitting at home, crying in your Ben & Jerry's because you will never have a man look at you the way men look at Anne Hathaway. She is stunning, in make up and out of make up. She has magnificent bone structure and the most magnificent eyes of any actress working today. That aside, she's also a talented actress (reference: The Devil Wears Prada) You say she's ruined the entire movie for you? Good! Stay home! Then we won't have to worry about you being in the theater bitching and moaning about how she's a "wench" as you eat your way through a Super Bucket of popcorn with extra greasy buttery flavored topping, 6 packs of Sno Caps and 8 boxes of Jujubes, all washed down with a diet soda, because you're serious about losing weight. While you're at it, use that 90 minutes or so to look up the meaning of "personal hygiene" on the web. Maybe you can find the source of that cheesey smell.

A film Version of Get Smart?.......sad.....again it seems Hollyweird take anything from their past that was ever any good and attempt to destroy it. The Character of Get Smart was Don Adams, no one else could even come close to being as good. In all fairness i have only seen the trailer, but as i see it stealing some characters and some catch phrases from an old well made TV show and giving it a bigger, flashier buddget does not mean it's gunna work....change the character names and take out the catch phrases and the car Don Adams use to drive in the TV show and what you have is what looks like a sort of remake of Naked Gun...like i said......Get Smart was Done and done well.....Too Hell with remakes, make something new that dosn't suck, that's what hollyweird should be doing....or is that just to difficult?

Having just seen some more footage from the Get Smart movie, and an interview with the stars i have to say that my opinion has not changed...this film really does look like rubbish.... steal some one else’s ideas and give it a flashier budget and what do you have but typical hollyweird dreck. I can Only hope that some good will come out of this and that it means the original TV series will get a DVD release in New Zealand because, having just seen what i have seen i have no intention in going to see this waste of time and money. Hmmm are remakes becoming a trend with actor Steve Carell first a remake of the English series the Office and now a remake of get smart....but i guess when your not a very good your suprised when you get handed anything at all. This looks just as bad as the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, oh sorry according to one press release i read somewhere it's not a remake it's a reimagining....what a joke it's a remake whatever you wanna call it.
