the trailer looks great, but it's missing one thing...comedy. one reason the mummy films have been successful is because of the light-heartedness that the series portrayed. it didn't take itself too seriously, this chapter looks to be otherwise. and i don't like how rob cohen copied the arrow scene from jet li's Hero film, yes jet li is in both films, but it goes to show how uncreative rob cohen is.

the special effects don't look too amazing here, but maybe the movie will be redeemed by Yeoh, Bello, and Jet Li? or a decent storyline? and why did that last shot with the arrows remind me of "Hero"?!?!? I'm actually willing to give it a chance...to see how good or bad it is.

The fact that the trailer uses the same music as one of the trailers for "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" is a clear sign of exactly how derivative this film will be. But why does that happen so often? "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" used Clint Mansel's theme from "Requiem for a Dream" too. Is it common for trailer editors to crib music from existing films? That drives me crazy.

This looks to be on par with the previous two "Mummy" flicks. This trailer doesn't really seem that bad, judging from what I read before, however, I do hope that the special effects are completed (if they're not) and improved by the release date.

this trailer is great just what i thought it would be like full of action and really get me pumped up for the film, i no Rob Cohen isn't that great of a director but dont sell him out yet it could be half decent, not as good as the two other but entertaining and a hell of a lot of fun.

I liked the previous two films (well ok, only the first) because they were set in Egypt. Maybe they're going on too much of a tangent. This looks ok and I'll probably go see it, but it's not going to have the same kind of spark the first one did. And why do sequels of great movies end up in Asia? I've noticed that and don't get it.

Ha I don't know what you guys are talking about looks great for what it is (a fun action/adventure/comedy). The effects were impressive and I saw some of the comedy. I didn't really care that Rachel Weisz didn't come back before but I see that they had a chemisty together. It still isn't really a turn off for me. The only thing that bothered me was that Jet Li could have looked so much more bad-ass. Still I'm so there. I think all your adventure/treasure hunting love is on Indiana Jones Alex 😉

@Alex - Have you seen the movie already? You mention seeing a trailer at ShoWest, but I don't recall you mentioning seeing the movie. If not, how can you state "Don't be fooled, the scenes you're seeing in this trailer are the best in the entire movie." Furthermore, you state "It looks like it features some cool set pieces and mediocre special effects, but really, this movie is going to be bad." I thought the scenery, set pieces, and special effects were actually pretty good. Some of the dialog wasn't that great, but then again the previous movies weren't literary gems either. I get the feeling you weren't paid to promote this film and are kind of ticked about it.

I really don't see (based on the trailer) why Alex is panning this movie. The comparison to the first movies makes no sense either. Note: The Mummy and The Mummy Returns weren't treasures of American cinema, dude. They were simply fun action movies with good special effects. Ok guys, the movie looks great, it has the action, story line, the WOW and POW factor.....it will do great at the box office.....why hasnt anybody mentioned the replacement of the wife character???? I can understand the son, he has grown up....maybe a little too grown up but at least it fits. The replacing of the wife sucks. If the original actress couldnt play her or wouldnt play her then dont give us a new one.....introduce Maria as her sister NOT as the wife. Doesnt this bother anybody else?

Benn. It bothers me..a bit. I'm not a fan of Rachel Weisz in the mummy films (loved her in Constantine) and do agree Maria should have been brought in as..anyone new..perhaps Evey and Rick weren't getting along anymore, or Evey died. I hate it when films have a new actor playing old ones. But that's generally only when I liked the original one in the role. For example, The Dark Knight (out in July) has replaced Katie Holmes with Maggie Gyllenhaal. Quite happy about that. Thought Katie's performance brought down most of Batman Begins finesse'. It'll be a bit jarring for Evey to look different. But I think I can manage. Anyone else?

Well, Sean. It doesn't matter if new Mummy flick makes money or not. By looking at the trailer, it's not interesting. There are too many faces in the family. The original wife is gone now, the kid (who I loved as a kid) is now a teenager and doesn't seem interesting. So when this movie comes out, I will not spend any money to go see it. Not even if the Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor made more money then all the Spiderman, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars movies combined. That movie journey to the center of the earth 3d that you've mentioned is coming to theaters on july 11th, 2008 friday!. But,if he was just being funny with out trying his hardist!, he would not be considered an actor but!, he is!, so in ways more then one!, yeah!, he is actually trying his hardist!, if not not then the director and producers would have fired him for thoses roles in those movies on the spot!. I always thought she was hot but lately she has looked like she was rode hard a put away wet. I loved Rachel Weisz in the preceding 2 Mummy movies and thought she and Fraser had good chemistry together, Fraser is probably one of the best action heroes today but because he is never in the tabloids he goes by unoticed. But he has made good movies and they do well. At first I could not believe that they would subsitute another actress for Evey and was upset about it but they did the same thing with Dumbledore in the Harry Pottery series when Richard Harris passed away. Michael Gambon has done a great job because I thought no one could replace Harris. I agree with Sean that how can you judge a movie without even seeing it. I have not went to the movies since Clerks 2 was released but I definitley will go see this one.
