Comedian George Carlin Has Passed Away

This is truly a tragic year! Legendary counterculture comedian George Carlin passed away Sunday evening due to heart failure. He was 71 years old. Carlin was described by Comedy Central as the second greatest stand-up comedian of all time behind Richard Pryor and was a frequent performer on "The Tonight Show" during Johnny Carson's era. His jokes constantly pushed the accepted boundaries of comedy and language. Although Carlin is known best as a stand-up comedian, he deserves some mention for playing Rufus in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Cardinal Ignatius Glick in Dogma, and a few other characters in various films. He will certainly be remembered alongside of Stan Winston and Sydney Pollack.
"I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately." Carlin's impact in the entertainment industry spreads far and wide. Many people, young and old, loved Carlin and his unique style of comedy. Although he didn't appear in an abundance of movies, he will at least be remembered for the few performances he did have. It's truly tragic to have lost so many legendary individuals from the entertainment industry this year. We'll leave you with one of Carlin's quotes. "If someone loves you and they leave and don't come back, it was never meant to be. If someone loves you and they leave and come back, set them on fire."

I was born in 87 and the first place I ever noticed George Carlin was in Shining Time Station on PBS when I was a kid. And then later when I had a Bill & Ted fad. And then around 99 I really got into his albums and tv specials. Even "hacked" the password lock on the satellite so I could order HBO for a month just so I could see a brand new Carlin special. This man is a legend and he has inspired so much of my life and my stance on politics and the world at large that this news has effected me in a way that I didn't even know. He has been a part of me since my childhood and I cannot believe he is gone. When I first read the news (at 2:30 this morning on yahoo) my breath was stolen away from me. It took about a minute before I realized that I hadn't taken one breath and that I was crying. I haven't been to sleep all night due to this. Such an inspiration for over three decades of fans and one of the greatest comedians of all time, right next to Richard Pryor. This has been one emotional year for me in regards to actors and comedians dieing. First Heath Ledger, then Harvey Korman and now George Carlin. All I have deep respect and admiration for. And to think, last week I was wondering if George Carlin was going to be alive much longer. I shouldn't have put that thought out into the universe. My greatest regret is not taking the chance to see him live when I had the chance last year. Money was tight but we had enough and an opportunity, and my wife and I decided against it. Dumbest fucking thing ever done by me, and it will haunt me for the rest of my life. R.I.P. Carlin, you were an asset to all of us of the counter culture. Goodbye, and thank you.

I've been following Carlin for as long as i've been into comedy, and that's a long time. I just last year got to see him in Alabama about a year before "It's bad for ya" came out. In my opinion he was one of the funniest people in the world. But I respected more his way of telling it like it is. I'll miss him tremendously and feel like one of my good friends died.

Didn't knew that Carlin was such a big name, but I allways enjoyed his roles in the Kevin Smith films. So I have some catching up to do, thank the sun for Youtube. RIP G. Carlin.

Another tragedy! Carlin was truly a comic genius! This really has been a sad year. Rest in peace Mr. Carlin. My deepest condolences to Mr. Carlin's family.

For those of you new to the comedic genius of Carlin, start with Carlin at Carnegie from the early 80's. Watch the master at work. For those of you who grew up watching him or are a child of the 70's as am I, dust off your turntable, grab a Carlin LP, crank the headphones and remember the master. Shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, tits and the updated fart turd and twat. RIP George Carlin. Say hi to Richard for us.

what a terrible loss... I can still remember listening to the vinyls to piss my parents off... would lock the door, open the windows, and BLAST the seven dirty words... and LOVE EVERY MINUTE of them beating on the door to turn it off cause THE NEIGHBORS WOULD HEAR. Truly a loss.. you will be missed

A true genius that will be missed greatly. If there is a God, he is getting an ear full right about now. Maybe things will change for all of us, because of George. I have a feeling he'll still be around. R.I.P. George.

This really does suck, I've been listening to carlin and watching his HBO special since i was like 10. as with most of my friends i was highly influenced by his vulgar comedy style. I will miss that guy for sure

Don't know what to say I haven't felt this way in any of recent deaths of known figures but today I just looked at news and didn't flicker I want him back so bad.
