Back in May we were a bit too quick to bring you the photos that surfaced of Adrien Brody and Emmanuelle Seigner starring in horror impresario Dario Argento's next film titled Giallo, as the production company asked us to remove them rather quickly. Thanks to a heads up from SlashFilm, however, today we have a slew of great set photos posted on the director's official website, including one of the killer's victims. If you recall, Giallo (which stands for "Yellow" in English) surrounds a serial killer (Byron Deidra) of the same name who has abducted Seigner's sister. Brody plays an investigator helping to locate the missing girl. If you can stomach just a little bit of blood and appreciate horror, these might be worth checking out.
You can find a few more photos over on Argento's website, but if you're just looking for a tease, read on.
I'm not a huge follower of Argento by any stretch, but I imagine Giallo is going to be one of his more commercial and approachable works, and by extension, more tame. His recently released Mother of Tears seems to embody much of the director's trademark horror and gore, which I can't see transferring to Giallo in any great way. If you're interested in a super bloody taste of Mother of Tears, just head over to Cinematical and enjoy a clip. That being said, the director's own description of Giallo does leave some gory promise. Thanks to Google, here's a rough translation of what the director writes of Giallo:
YELLOW chooses his victims according to their beauty, because he is not beautiful. He was locked up as a child, and now shows pleasure in kidnapping beautiful women and torturing them. He submits them to unspeakable torture, leaving long agony, until he is completely satisfied. Then he brutally kills and discards their bodies.
YELLOW is a "death machine" of incredible efficiency; he always knows exactly when and how to hit, and knows, with precision, who will be his next victim. He's very shrewd and intelligent, identifying his prey especially among tourists. The last is an Asian student, who he has just kidnapped and holds prisoner in his sordid cache. But he has already identified the next: Celine (Elsa Pataky -- Brody's real-life girlfriend).
Meanwhile, Linda (Seigner), her sister, has just arrived in Turin and is very concerned because Celine has not been heard from. She decides to contact the police who entrusts the case to Inspector Enzo Avolfi (Brody), a rather shrewd character that does not enjoy high esteem among his colleagues. Meanwhile the body of a young Asian student is found devoid of life. The Inspector Avolfi, who knows well the psychology of that serial-killer, is certain that if he fails to stop YELLOW, the next victim will be Celine.
Giallo is definitely one of my most highly anticipated for 2009! How about you?
