Peter Jackson Directing First Tintin Film Instead?

Tintin

The last we heard of Tintin was that it was scheduled to go into production sometime later this year with Steven Spielberg directing the first film, Peter Jackson directing the second film, and no one chosen for the third yet. However, an update has hit today from the Hollywood Reporter that mentions that things have switched just a bit. Jackson will instead be directing the first film with Spielberg still attached in some unknown capacity. Although other sources claim that Spielberg will still direct the first as planned, so we're not sure who is right (or wrong). No information on why this change was made, except that Jackson's schedule includes post-production on The Lovely Bones, writing work on The Hobbit, and then finally Tintin. Unfortunately his news isn't interesting enough to make me any more (or less) excited.

One report comes from Herge Studios, who holds the rights to the character, in an announcement today that said Jackson would be directing the first film. Other confirmations come from people close to both Jackson and Spielberg that say Jackson is still set to direct the second film, which would mean Spielberg is still directing the first (confused?). I don't know what to say, but I'm going to believe that Jackson is not going to be directing the first since he's got so much work to do. As a reminder, Tintin will star Thomas Sangster as Tintin and Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock and will be an animated film featuring motion-capture technology. We'll be sure to bring you any other updates we hear, but for now we'll continue to expect this to go into production this fall as planned with Spielberg directing the first and Jackson the second.

Do your homework this information is false: From /film Update: Despite the reports from the film industry trade papers, Steven Spielberg is still scheduled to helm the first Tintin movie. Both Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg’s camps insist that the rumor is inaccurate. The rumor started when a spokesman for Herge Studios’ claimed that Peter Jackson would be directing the first Tintin movie instead of Steven Spielberg. The Hollywood Reporter published a story earlier today, which was quickly removed from their website.

Either way both Spielberg and Jackson are terrible choices for a TinTin movie. By hiring Spielberg or Jackson you aren't hiring for a comedic, which is what the series is, a series of slapstick comedy. If anything this movie should be done like the original Pink Panther. I believe that Jackson could do a BETTER job than Spielberg (Spielberg has become a very formulaic director), although I would be worried that Jackson would overdo the monster or surreal aspect of the film.

Awesome, I had all the books as a kid. Looking forward to this one. It has a potential for some really cool plot tricks.

To David on Aug 26, 2008 You are absolutely right!! Spielberg is just making money in his 'producing role' and for Jackson.. Tin Tin is not some fantasy!
