The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Featurette

An odd sort of promo featurette designed to introduce us to the whimsical and wonderful world of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus has just appeared online courtesy of Quick Stop. As I'm sure everyone no doubt knows, this is actually Heath Ledger's very last film, the one that he was in the middle of shooting when he tragically passed away earlier this year. All of that aside, this featurette looks absolutely fantastic, which is rare for me to say considering I hated (with a fiery passion) Terry Gilliam's last film, Tideland. I'm not going to say anything else because I think it's best if you just watch this without any early knowledge of what to expect. It's full of such magic and fantasy that I'm certain you won't be let down...

We announced back in January that Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell would each be acting in the film to fill in for Ledger. Although there really isn't any actual footage in this video anyway, it's an exciting intro to the world of Doctor Parnassus. Does this clip spark your imagination or what?!

For more information on the film, head to the site: doctorparnassus.com.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is both co-written and directed by eclectic filmmaker Terry Gilliam, of films like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Time Bandits, Brazil, Twelve Monkeys, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas previously. The film was written by Gilliam and actor Charles McKeown, of Brazil and Ripley's Game scripts previously. This film doesn't actually have a US distributor confirmed just yet, but it's expected to pick up one fairly soon and arrive in theaters sometime later in 2009.

Does anyone else think Terry Gilliam would be great at creating videogames?

Looks OK, but I never really enjoyed any of his other films. Never was a Gilliam fan.

I'm a true Gilliam fan (although I didn't like Tideland and I thought Brothers Grim was average), and I'm really really looking forward to this movie.

I think this will be an amazing adventure, and it's sure to make a ton of money because of Ledger alone. He is quite the visionary. Gilliam is like Time Burton meets Quentin Tarantino.

Those fireworks in the last 40 seconds are from Fellowship of the Ring. Nice.

@6: only more visionary than both before their times even began. In fact, I dare say that without Gilliam, we would have no Tim Burton.

To Mcgruff : Apparently the video has been slightly modificated since yesterday, the fireworks from lotr are not there anymore (replace by some plane battle it seems).

Awesome - When the film orients around imagination it can go either way - like a kid story and its kinda cheesey and predictable - or - a duality of good/evil, light/darkness, where it kind of gives that 'scariness' of death or insanity that the range of imagination can create - similar to how you might have felt after the neverending story - all mystified and shit Looks great, can't wait.
