The Boat That Rocked

One Boat. Eight Men. No Morals. Check this story out: In the 1960's, a group of rogue English radio DJs setup a radio station on a boat in the middle of the North Sea and broadcast rock music that defined a generation and stood up to the British government. The Boat That Rocked is the cinematic retelling of that tremendous story, as captured by Love Actually writer/director Richard Curtis. Need I mention the cast? Bill Nighy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Kenneth Branagh, Nick Frost, and Rhys Ifans make up most of the DJs, while Gemma Arterton and January Jones play the beauties that disrupt the flow of things. And too add even more excitement into the mix, Empire has debuted the first few colorful posters from the film.

I don't know much about the story, about the characters, or even about the kind of music they played, but I don't care - I'm hooked! I know I get excited for a lot of movies, but this is one of the few that I'm genuinely foaming at the mouth to see, and might even fly to London just to catch. In addition to the full-size poster we've added below, four individual character posters were also debuted, and can be seen below that.

There's not much more to say about The Boat That Rocked just yet. The film shot earlier this year and is currently in post-production. It's slated to hit theaters in the UK on May 1st, 2009 but doesn't have a US release date set. Universal is distributing, but I'm not sure they know what they're doing with this just yet. I'm holding my breath and hoping that this debuts at Sundance in January, which seems like the perfect time and place for it to do so. I really can't wait to see it, and I prefer to go in completely fresh (as in, without a trailer), because I get the feeling that this is another classic in the making. Richard Curtis hasn't directed anything since Love Actually in 2003, but he's back again to show his next brilliant film!

Saw the teaser for this on the front of Quantum of Solace, hadn't heard anything about it but judging by the cast (Ifans and Nighy Especially) and Richard Curtis' track record I am very much looking forward to this!

Does this story have any relation to the principality of SeaLand? Either way, it looks awesome. Just happy to see Betty Draper in another light.

This film will rock beyond imagination. And Bill Nighy does look so unbelievably hot and groovy. Can't wait!

This is going to be good because of british humor and Bill Nighy

I can't wait for this film. It also stars the brilliant Rhys Darby from Flight Of The Conchords! I hope a trailer isn't too far off 🙂
