Badass First Official Kick-Ass Photos!

We were just sent over two new photos from Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass, the upcoming comic book adaptation that we've been talking about for a while. We've been waiting and waiting to finally get a real photo of Dave Lizewski in his homemade costume - and here it is! For those who thinks this looks a bit cheesy, that is exactly the point. Dave is just a kid who wonders why more people don't dress up in crazy costumes and become heroes on their own - so he does it himself. The first photo looks like it's from the scene where he first goes out and gets his ass kicked encountering some thugs on the street. The reason why he ends up getting famous is because people record the fight and put it on YouTube. Take a look!

I've got to admit, these look much better than I was expecting. It looks like Vaughn is really going to pull it off - and as a huge fan of the comic book series, I can't even begin to tell you how exciting that is.

Kick-Ass

Kick-Ass is both written and directed by British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, of Layer Cake and Stardust previously. The screenplay was co-written by Vaughn and his writing partner Jane Goldman, of Stardust as well. The story is an adaptation of Mark Millar's comic of the same name that is currently in the middle of its first series. Kick-Ass was funded entirely by Matthew Vaughn on his own and doesn't yet have a distributor. However, we can expect Kick-Ass to eventually show up in theaters sometime in 2009.

Hey Alex, thanks for this update. This is exciting, I'll definitely go for this one rather than the over-hyped glossy Twilight(the actor looks like he'd drop down anytime due to vitamin deficiency). The story seems straight for Kick Ass and I've loved both the directors movies..waiting for next update until the premiere. And mark my words all you Twilight fans this one's gonna kick Twilight's Ass and make them never see the sunrise.

Reminds me, I gotta go pick up the rest of the issues for this series. I imagine this movie is going to be violent like crazy! It kinda looks like they're going for that comic/live-action look they did for Watchmen. I'm eye-balling this one very closely!

Badass? That looks really gay, sure I've never read the comic or even seen it to knwo why it would have such a huge follwing already, Im just going off these pics, again really gay.

Looking loyal to the comic which is a very very good thing!

#9 That's exactly the point, he's just some kid who decides he's gonna be a costumed vigilante in the real world... so, unlike Spiderman, his home-made costume looks... well, home-made. And yeah, a bit gay.

I didn't think 14yr old high school boys read this site, but after all of the "looks totally GAY" comments, apparently I was wrong.

Yea, Something looking Gay should not be the defacto term for something that makes you young pups feel awkward and uncomfortable in your crotch area. that's just puberty settling in..you will work through it..

I'm 31, I still think it looks gay and I'll still watch it because I guess that's the point, its it's that true to the comic that IS a good thing.

Holy crap. The first photo is the dip'n sip near my house. I knew they were filming in Toronto, I just hadn't realized they were filming that close to home. hmmm that place is actually has really bad donuts.

I wouldnt say it looks gay but rather it looks really LAME...as in straight-to-dvd-LAME...

Sweet. Judging from what I've heard about this movie so far I'm hooked. I was a huge fan of Shoot Em' Up, and although it may be lacking plot and character development, I'm a sucker for kick-ass action scenes. Sounds like my kind of movie.

The comic is fucking awesome, the costume looks pretty much like the one in the comic, but i dont think the actor is young enough. He looks 25, when the kid is supposed to be like 15.

also, the costume is supposed to look goofy because its made by a kid. it will most certainly not be gay or lame if they stick to comic. i recommend the comic to everyone.

It is too bad that Nick ( I have the timeing of rock and dirt and cannot act my way out of a paper bag) is going to RUIN this film, just like everything else he is in. Sorry Red!
